BLURB:
Greg Dawson’s not sure which he regrets more – becoming a vampire or becoming a software engineer. Immortality? Not all it’s cracked up to be. The job? Way more headache than it’s worth, especially on those increasingly frequent nights when he’s overworked and hangry.
With a deadline looming and his hunger growing, he’s nearing the end of his tether. Then relief comes from an unexpected source – Zane Webber, the hot programmer Greg’s been fantasizing about for two years.
Disregarding company policy, Zane lets him feed, but kind of forgets to mention he’s got some weed in his system. The next thing Greg knows, he’s high as a kite…and he likes it. He wants more.
Except how much of that high is secondhand weed, and how much is the electric and undeniable chemistry between him and Zane?
That chemistry draws them back to each other again and again, and suddenly their downtime is full of sex, smoke, feeding…and emotions.
The only problem is Zane’s a mortal. If they’re in this for the long haul, then Greg has to either turn Zane or accept a future of watching him wither and die. Greg doesn’t want to lose Zane, but he also can’t stomach condemning him to this “life.” And if they can’t find some middle ground, they’ll have no choice but to let their love go up in smoke.
STORY REVIEW:
Greg the vampire lives in Washington and works for a high-tech company. He hates everything about it except his hot coworker, Zane the human. Greg takes a break one night, finds Zane on the patio, has a snack and gets high…. turns out vampires who feed from humans who have consumed or smoked weed can get stoned! This is a good thing, and leads to sex, blood, and marijuana.
So really there’s not much too this book, but I fucking loved it! I loved reading about it on L.A. Witt’s Facebook page while she was writing it, I loved reading the blurb before it was released, I loved reading it when it came out in e-book format, and I loved listening to the audio version of it! Obviously L.A. Witt can write a good book, we all know this, but this book is so sneaky. Although the plot is light, there is a lot of depth to the characters, a lot of emotions, and some damn fine sex.
First there is Greg’s opinion of the corporate life… It sucks. He got into this situation seeking a way to pay for his education and get a good job, but now that he’s been a vampire employee, he realizes he’s possibly made a mistake. His internal comments made me laugh, especially when he’s hangry and ranting about the irony of “human” resources, and the blood drive poster. I can totally see this happening if vampires were really a thing.
Then there is Greg’s concern about falling in love with Zane and watching him die, or on the other hand, bringing Zane into a life Greg doesn’t like. But damned it he doesn’t go ahead and fall in love anyway. I won’t tell you what happens about that though!
Then there is the sex. Oh yea…. the sex. L.A. Witt knows how to write a fucking hot sex scene! Add in some blood and weed, and it’s even better.
Then there is the humor. It started with a title of the book, then the freaking cover of the book with its fake awards. I was amused before I even read it! Greg’s name made me giggle, Greg is such an un-vampire-like name… and he’s kind of snarky! I loved that.
Then there is the location. L.A. Witt is from Washington state, and she gets the location details just right. Even down to the stoners at Gasworks Park.
Yup! I gave this book 4.5 hearts, it may have a short, basic plot, but it is funny, sweet, hot and sexy. It has great details, good characters, and a stoned vampire. What more do you want?
NARRATION REVIEW:
How about some awesome narration! I went from a book narrated by Nick J. Russo, to a book narrated by Nick J. Russo, so I’m kinda used to his voice this week! I loved his voices for Greg and Zane, especially when they were both high. His moans and groans during the sex scenes were oh so sexy, and I loved the pauses in between as well. His pacing was perfect. He made this quirky little book just a little bit more enjoyable!
