BLURB:
In a trendy San Francisco art gallery, out-of-towner Vin Vanbly witnesses an act of compassion that compels him to make investment banker Perry Mangin a mysterious offer: in exchange for a weekend of complete submission, Vin will restore Perry’s “kingship” and transform him into the man he was always meant to be.
Despite intense reservations, Perry agrees, setting in motion a chain of events that will test the limits of his body, seduce his senses, and fray his every nerve, (perhaps occasionally breaking the law) while Vin guides him toward his destiny as ‘the one true king.’
Even as Perry rediscovers old grief and new joys within himself, Vin and his shadowy motivations remain enigmas: who is this off-beat stranger guiding them from danger to hilarity to danger? To emerge triumphant, Perry must overcome the greatest challenge alone: embracing his devastating past. But can he succeed by Sunday’s sunrise deadline? How can he possibly evolve from an ordinary investment banker into King Perry?
REVIEW:
When I first started reading this book, I was so confused. And then I was like Perry (one of the MCs) and was annoyed and flabbergasted at Vin through the whole book lol. Fortunately for Perry, he figured out what was going on before I did. And when I figured it out, everything fell into place and it became one of the most beautiful books to me.
Vin wanted Perry. At an art gallery where Perry was featuring his father’s work, Vin laid eyes on Perry and was hooked. Especially when he noticed the somewhat uptight man do a compassionate act that made him look bad and the other person look good. Vin decided he needed to dig deeper. So he invites Perry for ‘King’s’ weekend. During this weekend, Vin breaks several laws, or does he? But he has a motive. Perry figures out what’s going on with most of it. But the last part of the weekend takes a turn Perry wasn’t ready for. But it hits him hard and changes his life. Even with this life changing transformation, Perry isn’t ready to deal with the fact Vin is gone after it’s over. He’s come to love this quirky man. But with the new beginning, maybe things will turn out much different and better.
Oh my gah if ever I wanted to choke someone in a book. Vin is it. I was so confused with what he was doing to poor Perry. But with some of the stuff he was doing, I felt he was cruel too. I was indignant over some of the stuff he was doing. But like I said earlier, Perry figured it out before me. (I’m usually not this slow lol). Vin saw something in Perry that night at the gallery and it made him want to free Perry from what was holding him back. It also made it want to fill him with love. All the love he can handle. He had to keep Perry on his toes to do it. He led him through some pretty out of his comfort zone stuff while enthralling him with a tale of all times. And at the end of their weekend, Perry figured out what he needed and he finally did it. I, of course, was bawling. Right along with Perry. The transformation that happens, the process he goes through….utterly beautiful. You know, they say some of the most beautiful gems go through the harshest process to get to what they become. Well, that was Perry. When all was said and done, everything was worth it.
I’m not going to go into too much detail, because I don’t want to give anything away, but keep in mind a few things. Hold on to those you love. Forgive those who have hurt you. Not necessarily for them, but for you. For the freedom in yourself. Believe in yourself. Take the time to see the beauty around you. Even in the smallest things. Life is too short.
