“At this point, I’m starting to think that if I don’t feel something for someone soon, that the notion of sparks will go the way of the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.”
David Taylor just wants to belong. After a childhood of being the perfect son in an attempt to receive the acceptance he so craved, he has finally started living the life he wants. Maybe that means dating men as well as women. Maybe it even means exploring something a little outside the norm, but that fills him with a comfort and completeness he never thought possible.
“I like casual, no-strings sex as much as any man. But in those rare moments when I actually allow myself to wish, I will acknowledge that it might be nice to have a man to come home to.”
Arthur Yuen loves men and has a merit badge in flirting to prove it. He also has a big mouth, as evidenced by him calling an adorable stranger “puppy” while at work one day. Who knew his slip would set off a chain of events that brings the two men together in a way neither would have imagined possible?
As Dave and Arthur explore a relationship that includes puppy play, they learn as much about themselves as they do each other. The two men discover a companionship that seems to be a perfect fit until tragedy strikes, and it will take every scrap of determination and understanding to keep their relationship going.
REVIEW:
Dave is a sweet, caring man who carries a lot of anxiety with him, due to the pressures his family put him under. He’s been ignoring his attraction to men for a long time and when he finally decides to explore it, he finds what he’s been looking for all along.
Arthur is everything Dave isn’t. He’s big and strong and confident, but he’s also someone who likes to help people. When Dave stumbles into his life, he’s instantly attracted to the sweet, adorable man who reacts so beautifully to Arthur’s calm nature.
The Dom/sub part of this story is very light. The puppy play featured is very well portrayed and I liked how this story show’s the softer side of the kink lifestyle. I know for some people, Dom/sub and kink leave them feeling uncomfortable but trust me when I say, this would be a good introduction that might have you changing your mind a little bit.
I’m having a hard time trying to explain my feelings about this book to you, because I am really afraid of giving too much away.
Dave has some really good friends who offer him a haven as he tries to keep out of the manipulative clutches of his family. The people he works with are more like a family to him than the one he’s trying to escape.
Arthur’s friends are fun and friendly and I am assuming they are the main characters of the other books in the series and I will be looking them up very soon.
Once I started reading this book, I had a hard time putting it down to do silly things like work and sleep because I wanted to see so much how these two men would finally find their way to each other.
If you’re looking to explore something new, and like a sweet tone to your story, I think this will be right up your alley.
