REVIEW:
I am so excited…a new Max Walker book!
I have been a fan of Max Walker since his “Guardian Series”. The he had his “Sierra View” and wrote it so convincingly that I was actually looking for Red and his trailer while on the Universal Studios back lot tour. That was somewhat embarrassing since my daughter figured it out and started laughing. This new series is a spin-off of that series and is based on the private detectives who have helped out in the past.
We met the owner Zane and his fiancé Enzo in the first book. Enzo, a highly sought after attorney has sent his famous and rich client, Griffin, to Stonewall Investigations. He had awoken from a prescription drug and alcohol induced blackout to find his roommate murdered in his home. When he arrives at SI he is immediately taken by the sexy detective that offers to help him with his case. Griffin, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was been depending on alcohol to get him through his intense episodes. It has not only made him numb to reality but has driven a wedge between him and his estranged father. Alejandro loves being a detective but the cases of late have been a bit dull and he is excited when the gorgeous young man walks in and needs his help to solve the mystery of who murdered his roommate. But Alejandro has a back history with someone who he was very close to that abused drugs and alcohol. Can he see past the past and look towards the future with Griffin when things start to heat up?
I loved seeing how Griffin transformed and his learning to lean on and trust Alex (Alejandro). Bipolar disorder is a very real and, at time debilitating, disease. People can react negatively to the drugs and don’t want to take them. They complain that it makes them feel detached and in a fog. Adding alcohol can be very dangerous. Griffin’s choice to change was not only the right choice but it also was encouraging.
I was very excited to get the next book in this series. It combines love, danger, and intrigue to make a really intriguing read. I had thought that we would have more about the “Unicorn Killer” but I think that will probably be in Collin’s story since he is the lead detective on that case. I can’t wait for the next in the series! It’s Mark’s story next.
