Love Bytes says hello and welcome to author Kris Jacen joining us today to talk about her newest release Wait for Me. Kris also shares an excerpt with us and brought a wonderful giveaway for our readers!
Welcome Kris 🙂
It’s so strange for me these days. I’m used to writing guest blogs. I’ve done it for years on different topics as an editor. Used to introducing myself as “the editor in chief for MLR”. It was unusual at the end of May when I attended my first conference as an author. I had to remember to include that I was a published author.
Wait for Me
The hardest job is waiting.
Master Sergeant Jeff “Mackey” MacNamara has been waiting for THE ONE for years. First it wasn’t too safe to find a partner and now his schedule is a nightmare with training soldiers and deployments.
Scott Ash has found where he always was meant to be after a brief bout of idealistic do-gooder after college. He loves his job as a child care director, if he could just find someone to love – perfect might cover it.
A chance meeting when Scott is doing a favor for a friend starts them on a journey that could take them to forever, it’s just a matter of waiting.

This is from about half-way through the story and you get to see a bit of The Heptad.
Scott was standing to the side watching Jeff say his farewells for now to the brothers of his heart. Watching the heptad together just made Scott believe in the power of connection even more than he already did.
Danny pulled away from the group and walked over to Scott. “I’m glad that Mackey found you. You’re adding to the grounding that Dix gives him.”
“Thank you? But honestly you all are some of the most well-grounded guys I’ve seen. You know each other so well that you almost anticipate when one of you will need or do something.”
“Yeah, about that. Kevin’s tied up in Britt right now and Mooney with the renovations for Debbie and the boys. Spook and I had lunch the other day and were talking and we called Brian and Mike. Somehow in this I ended up the spokesman.” Danny ran his hand over his shorn head. Looked to Scott if he had more hair he’d be pulling it.
“I noticed that’s how you guys deal with something. Talk it out and then a spokesman presents it to whomever. So, you’re the spokesman for what? You just told me that you’re glad that Jeff found me. What, the other guys don’t agree?” Scott was heading toward being pissed.
“Whoa, not at all. We all think you’re great for him. We talked about Mackey and how he can shut down. We think at some point he’s going to try and shut you out. He’s going to think he’s doing you a favor, that’s it’s best for you. He’ll come up with some stupid idea.” Danny looked over to where the twins were hanging off Jeff, talking over each other. “Don’t let him. If you want him, you might have to fight him for him. We just wanted you to know that in this, we’re on your side, which is Mackey’s side too.”
Scott thought through what Danny had just said. Fight Jeff for Jeff? Yeah, he could do that. He felt a tap on each leg and looked down to see Cal and Cam. Danny tapped him on the shoulder as he walked off and in a move that was second nature to Scott, he moved down to their level. “It was nice to get to meet you two tonight.”
Cam and Cal shared a look and then turned back to him. “So are you going to—” Cam started.
“Stay with Key? ‘cuz he—” Cal cut him off.
“Looks really happy and we—”
“Like you and think—”
“You should, so Key—”
“Has someone to sleep with.” They finished together and there was dead silence in the room. Everyone had tuned into Scott and the boys somewhere during their speech.
“Umm, well…” Scott wasn’t exactly sure how to answer the boys then settled on the truth. “I’m hoping to be with Jeff for some time. Does that mean I’ll get to see you again?”
“Yeah!” the twins left Scott’s side then ran back and each gave him a kiss on the cheek. “See we tolded you!” They smiled at their father.
Congratulations on the release, Kris. My favourite tradition has nothing to do with military… it is gathering together with all the family in Christmas eve. We have a lot of fun together, it is really good.
I was raised in the military. Every holiday, we invited some service men to celebrate with us. I loved that and we still include anyone we know who will be alone for the holidays.
Love these books. Most of our traditions have to do with cooking or baking. The one we continue the most is baking Anise flavored cookies in many shapes and decorating them with different colored sprinkles. When Grandma was still with us, we did over 3000 cookies on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Every year.
I have all your books Kris. Please give the prize to someone else. I just had to share the cookie story.
Decorating the real Christmas tree with all the ornaments we’ve collected over the years.
Congrats on the new release! I guess my favorite tradition would be getting ready for the holidays. In my family we have a process of what has to be done and getting the items read.
I served in the Air Force and all of my siblings followed my lead. Except for my sister who liked the Navy uniforms better!
I loved our tradition of making a delicate dessert using a wrought iron mold, dipped in batter and then in hot oil, to form light, flaky shapes, which were dusted with powdered sugar. We had them on Christmas Eve with hot chocolate.
I wish I could find those Rosette molds somewhere!
