TITLE: The Werewolf’s Fae Mate
AUTHOR: Liv Rider
PUBLISHER: Self-Published
LENGTH: 113 Pages
RELEASE DATE: May 12, 2018
BLURB:
He never expected his mate to be fae. Now he has to choose between his heart and his pack.
When mixed-blood werewolf Mahon comes across powerful fae magic in a nightclub, dealing with the threat is a chance to prove to his new pack where his loyalties lie. But the threat turns out to be a gorgeous, wide-eyed college student who’s never heard of the supernatural world. After they’re attacked by bloodsucking vampire bats, he takes Oscar and his small, angry cat home for their own protection. He’ll definitely tell his pack about Oscar…later.
Abandoned as an infant, Oscar’s always wondered where he came from—he just never expected the answer to include pointy ears, magical powers, and evil forces trying to kill him. Oscar knows he shouldn’t rely on Mahon for help, but it’s hard to resist when a six-foot-six werewolf literally sweeps you off your feet. The key to Oscar’s past might lie with the local fae court—where werewolves aren’t welcome.
Oscar and Mahon are mates—but how can they be together when it might cost them both everything?
REVIEW:
Oscar is a sweetheart who is always trying to make the best out of life, even when it hasn’t been really kind to him.
Mahon is loyal to a fault, putting the care of the people he loves in front of anything he needs for himself.
The premise of this story is excellent. A fae who has no idea who or what he is falling for the half-blooded werewolf who saves his life? It’s adorable and sweet and exactly the kind of thing that low-angst romance lovers can’t get enough of.
The paranormal/supernatural genre is something I can get lost in for days (or weeks, or months….okay fine, years) and I enjoyed this sweet little story.
Throw in the requisite miscommunication error and a meddling family member and it plays out quite well.
The world the author creates for her characters to live in is well done and while the side characters are interesting, they are mostly just plot movers. And of course, there’s the bad guy. He’s no surprise and it was obvious where it was going right away, but that’s okay. The journey was fun, even though we knew what the destination was.
The biggest issue with this story was the lack of build up. Once the two guys got together, everything happened very quickly. I liked the guys, but didn’t fall in love with them. I didn’t know them well enough. There’s no time for anticipation to build, so the big climax sort of lack the punch it could have had if the author had taken a little longer to work up the fear and tension.
However, it was a great rainy afternoon read. I was interested enough to keep reading until the end so I could see how Oscar and Mahon got their happily-ever-after and if you are someone who likes their stories to be a little less stressful and angsty, you will love this one.
Also, the cat is hilarious and I wish it was mine.
