Does love stand a chance between two very different long-time friends?
Mike Dombruso’s life is anything but glamorous. He’s a shy, nerdy accountant and a widower with three young sons, whose world revolves around his kids.
In many ways, Yoshiro Miyazaki is Mike’s polar opposite. He’s a confident, sophisticated tattoo artist who seems to have it all, from his successful business to his stylish loft apartment and rock star boyfriend.
Their unlikely friendship has spanned more than a decade, and Mike is surprised when he realizes he’s fallen for the best friend he’s ever had. After Yoshi breaks up with his boyfriend, Mike sees a window of opportunity. But he has some decisions to make.
Should he risk their friendship for a shot at something more, and is he really ready to explore his bisexuality for the first time? Most of all, can the young widower let go of the past and take a chance on love again?
And even if Mike decides to give it a try, will Yoshi really be willing to trade life in the fast lane for kids and carpools?
This friends-to-lovers and opposites attract MM romance is part of Alexa Land’s bestselling Firsts and Forever Series, but each book is written to stand alone, so jump in anywhere. Please note: it contains adult content and is intended for mature readers.
REVIEW:
Mikey Dombruso has always been one of my favorite background/side characters in this series. The younger brother, accountant, father of three and widower. Uptight and kind of shy. Someone that kind of uptight, former accountant, me, can empathize with. Particularly getting razed for buttoning too many buttons on the polo shirts! 🙂
Finally, he is getting his own story. And it was a good story. I also like the Yoshi character who we had been introduced to in other books because of his tattoo business and other ‘drop-in’ appearances. I was really happy to see Mike finally admit his bisexuality. I, and probably most of the rest of Ms. Land’s readers, had no idea that soccer dad Mikey Dombruso was bisexual. And neither did his best friend Yoshi, who it turns out has had a crush on him for the last twelve years!
But Yoshi is dating a famous rock star. Is there any hope?
Enough spoilers. If you read the blurb there are even more spoilers, so take my advice and just jump into the book headfirst like I did. Now let’s take a minute to talk about Ms. Land’s writing style. I love it. I hate the fact that every single book she has written has been a cover to cover read for me. Why do I say that? Because literally cover to cover…in one sitting…every single time. I’ve lost a lot of sleep since I found this author way back on book one. I enjoy her use of humor, and the characters. Nana didn’t get as much face time in this one, but it was made up for with the glimpses into the personalities of Mike’s three sons. Their individual personalities and stories were some of my favorite parts of the book.
I highly recommend this one, and for that matter every single darned one of the books ever written by this woman. I thought that somewhere along the way I’d get bored with this continuing saga, but no. Not yet. I am eagerly awaiting her next book, a spin-off to Catalina Island. I’m sure I’ll love it.
If you aren’t reading Ms. Land’s books and you like a happy ending…every time…you need to pick up one today. They can be read in any order, but I recommend starting at the beginning and going in order so that you see the character development that has happened throughout the series.
