Southern Flowers
My new story from Dreamspinner is called War Paint, and it’s the Georgia story in the States of Love series. I recently found myself back in the south after many years of roaming around the country- and the world- and there were a few surprises coming back. Things have not changed much at all in the Deep South; the economy is worse and the food is better. The humidity and heat remain the same. But I had forgotten about the beautiful southern flowers.
Masses of azaleas and camellias, in beautiful pinks and corals and white; the dogwoods in the spring and the Easter cherry blossoms that blow around in the wind and bring great pink drifts of petals against the new grass. The magnolias, the majestic tall trees and proud white blooms that smell, strangely enough, a bit like lemons. The rain and the heat and humidity are hard to bear, but the flowers seem to love it, so that’s okay. Here are a few photos of the beautiful southern flowers. And thank you for reading my new story!
