Never let go.
Weighed down by scandal, Captain Jamie Callahan must choose between saving his family’s reputation and his father’s political aspirations, or taking down the enemy once and for all. Choosing one over the other will have lasting repercussions he can’t escape. Whatever path Jamie ultimately picks, Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan will be right by his side to face the consequences. Kyle knows in a situation like this the only way out is through. Together they can make it to the other side, but surviving that journey will take everything they have.
One last chance.
Agent Sean Delaney is learning what it means to be part of Alpha Team through trial by fire. He wouldn’t change it for the world, nor would he give up the life he’s building with Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin. But their time together is threatened by outside forces they can’t outrun. Having put the nightmare of Boston behind him, Alexei is focused on keeping his family safe, but he can’t have eyes on everyone. Alexei knows he can’t ignore the danger on the horizon, and when it strikes, he is unprepared for the tragedy it leaves in its wake.
Risking it all.
The odds are stacked ever higher against Alpha Team, and outmaneuvering a precog is a daunting, almost impossible task. Jamie knows something has to give, and when it does, it just might break him the way nothing else in his life ever could.
REVIEW:
So, I’m not going to make this review of In the Requiem, book 5 of the Metahuman series super long. In the Requiem is the final book that I’ve reviewed in the series and I’ve gushed about them all in basically the same ways. If you need more convincing you can go back and read the past 4 reviews at Love Bytes, but if you’ve been paying attention more convincing shouldn’t be necessary 😉
In the Requiem doesn’t shy away from any of the things that we know and love about Hailey Turner as an author and the world she has created in the Methuman series. All of the nail-biting, edge of your seat, gut churning thrill ride of epic proportions are here. The terrorist cell is still a problem with their constant need for murder and mayhem. Public officials and unworthy, psychotic individuals looking to do bad if given the power they seek. And all the while the MDF and the good guys are trying to end it for the good of the world.
Now I loved this whole story. I find it fascinating how easy Hailey Turner can suck me into this world she’s created. But what I cherished above all things was looking at how these men have grown together. Little things like words that would have come so hard in the early stages are now a regular occurrence. Or glances, touches, etc. especially Sean and Alexei, I loved all their on page time because they went through hell in the last book and to see them like this was beautiful. Kyle and Jamie always blow my mind but it was nice to see how comfortable the issue characters were as well.
Now don’t get me wrong this isn’t all HEAs, flowers, and puppies. They battle hard to get the peace they all deserve and you feel every stressful moment. And you ended up loving the story more for it.
Get them…get them all…RECOMMEND!!!
