BLURB:
Dr. Casper Rollins knows how to have fun. The love of his life, Kage Myers, lived every moment to the fullest before he died. Now, Casper goes skydiving, mountain-climbing or on other adrenaline-soaked adventures when he wants to feel closer to his lost love.
Medical director Eric Holtz is married to his work — so much so his husband left him. But when his niece shows up, pregnant and in need of an ally, Eric suddenly has family again. Unfortunately, her obstetrician, Casper Rollins, is sexy enough to turn Eric into a blushing adolescent.
What begins as a game to break Eric of his workaholic tendencies escalates into scorching sex and feelings that can’t be ignored. Casper never planned to give his heart to anyone other than Kage, and Eric won’t accept anything less.
If these two want a future, they’ll have to embrace the lesson Kage taught Casper long ago: You only live once.
REVIEW:
When you lose someone, how do you move on?
The blurb to this story gives the basic outline. And what a story it is. Eric and Casper have lost people in different ways. This tale shows how the catalyst of fate intervenes to change their lives completely.
Eric’s pregnant teenage niece is the pivotal factor. Though, it is the journey of Eric and Casper that is the prime focus.
Doctor Casper Rollins (who also makes an appearance in book 4) is a hottie. He uses distraction as a means of coping with the loss of the love of his life. While Eric sinks into his work – which was a factor in losing his husband as well as dealing with it. Mmmmm, don’t you just lurve the name Casper – I find it’s a drool-worthy name, and the character that holds the name is rather stunning, too. Though, I also have a soft spot for Eric.
D J Jamison is fast becoming a favourite author. To produce self-published work of such high quality is no mean feat. As with the other books in this series, there is a super range of contrasting cast members. There’s the understanding ones, the bible quoting ones, through to the hard-assed and fun loving.
Eric and Casper are middle-aged, and are adorable, but not in a sickly way. They are good people searching for something special, yet not always recognising it. They know the art of flirting, kissing, sex, and have experienced life. These factors, plus an excellent plot, make this a faster-paced story than book 4 – which better suited my reading preferences.
I have never been a person who gives away too many spoilers, and I’m not going to start now. What I will say is that this story touched my heart. It made me smile, get a little flushed (cough cough), shed tears and gave me just the right amount of drama to make me fall in love with it.
Surprise Delivery has a medical footing, whose story moves outside the walls of the hospital into the lives of its inhabitants. It ticked all my boxes. Hopefully, it will tick all of yours.
