Lured by seductive promises, Andreas risked his life to be with Theron, only to find himself betrayed. Abandoned and alone, Andreas resigns all hope of seeing his fierce warrior again and resumes his life as a helot.
All too aware of the harsh punishment Sparta demands of men who love other men, Theron reluctantly surrenders Andreas in hopes of keeping him safe. The warrior returns to Sparta to embrace his destiny in place of the helot he has grown to see as a man, not just a slave. Cold but honorable duty will be his new lover.
Duty proves to be a jealous lover when Sparta demands the final test of Theron’s loyalty. Sent to kill Andreas, Theron must find a way to come to terms with his burning desire for his handsome helot before their forbidden love destroys them both.
REVIEW:
This was such a good book, but so sad and emotional as well. The conflicts between the two MCs and their homelands and their backgrounds, is just causing such turmoil and grief. Not to mention all the curve balls they get as well.
Andreas is beyond upset. Theron has been gone for months. He promised he would be back to come get Andreas and make him his companion so they could be together. Now he’s gone, Andreas is all alone and abandoned again. But what Andreas doesn’t know is Theron actually did come back, but it was too dangerous for him to stay. He’s lost two of his brothers because they were lovers and he’s been in search of one of them for a while. Plus, Theron suspects someone knows about him and Andreas. And when it comes time for his list of helots to kill, Andreas’s name is there. He’s almost positive someone knows. But how can he kill the man who means so much to him? He has to find a way to make this work. And his only solution is to run off with Andreas and take him to safety.
These two have been put through the wringer. It’s so saddening that people can’t accept who others love. Theron has lost two close brothers, one to death, one to exile. And he’s desperate to find the one exiled before someone kills him. And someone is after him. On top of the fact, he’s been away from Andreas for too long. And he warring with himself about it. He feels like he’s not supposed to care for a man, especially being a Spartan, but Andreas means so much to him. And he’s in danger. That was before Theron got his kill list. Now he’s really in danger. If he doesn’t follow orders and kill Andreas, someone else will. What does he do? Andreas is out of his mind with worry and now he’s pissed. Theron promised he’d be back for him and he lied. Or that’s what he thinks. He has no idea what’s going on. People around him are dying and when it was time for him to pay his sacrifice to the Spartans, he feels like he’s being scrutinized. And not in a good way. He feels like something bad is going to happen and he’s scared. For himself and for Theron. The nightmares of blood are not helping. It seems like there is no way out for these two. And it’s so sad because all they want to do is love each other. It’s hard to watch them with the struggles they have. Not knowing who to trust and who not to. Or not knowing when their time may be up.
This book is so good. The series is so good. It will take you on an emotional journey for sure. These guys have a lot to overcome and I can’t wait to see how and if they do it.
