REVIEW:
So, let’s start this review off with this…WOW….I read the blurb and was pretty damn excited to see what the author could come up with…could they blow my mind with all of this? Would the story hold my interest…yeah…Nero did a pretty good job of messing with me. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. How hooked I became to see how this was all going to turn out…yeah…I couldn’t have predicted that one…
Kuon…wow…from the start of this book…I felt for Kuon. I mean…it starts with Kuon being captured already and then…yeah…Kuon is in for the ride of his life. I really mean that…poor guy. I felt so bad for him…here he is trying to do his best to catch criminals and he’s set up and betrayed. Kuon knows that he gets obsessed with doing his job and that he sometimes crosses the line into tunnel vision…but his heart is in the right place. It was hard to watch Kuon struggle with being kidnapped and abused. The despair and hopelessness that Kuon started to feel and how it effected him. How he started to see kindness in Yugo and wanted to believe that what he was seeing was real.
Yugo…now this man is a True Sadist…and he loves every minute of it. Yugo…I’m not sure what to say about him. He’s a different kind of MC than I thought. I can’t say that I liked him…but I can’t say that I hated him either…it’s quite the conundrum. I’m still unsure as to what I feel about him. I mean…he’s a Bastard…don’t get me wrong and the things that he does to Kuon…yeah…that had me twisted and yet…he’s…I’m not sure how to describe him. I mean, don’t get me wrong…Yugo is a TWISTED, HOT MESS and yet…we get to see into his head and it’s DARK TWISTED and yet…what he feels for Kuon…makes him seem just a bit more human. Not totallly and not very much…but you see that he is human-ish.
This book was hard to read. There were disclaimers/trigger warnings at the beginning of the book…yeah…you really need to go into this book knowing that it’s dark, twisted and so damn hard to get thru. I mean…even I had a hard time getting thru this book and had to put it down and read something happy to get my head right again. I finished this book and yeah…I couldn’t really hold much else in my head. I kept reliving the story and especially the end…I mean…my jaw was on the ground and my heart stopped…BLAM!!! ON THE FLOOR!!
I have to say that this book was very well written and the author really brought out their A game. I was hooked. Seeing the back and forth..the anger, the hatred, the despair that Kuon was going thru…I was along for his ride…I was feeling it also. I haven’t read a book that tore me to pieces like this in a very long time…then…to read that the story isn’t finished yet…that there is more to come…yeah…my poor heart.
