Lincoln
I thought there was only one thing I needed to make me happy. I was so sure becoming a rock star would heal the dark corners inside me. But every time I walk onto the stage, with a roaring crowd screaming my name, all I can think about is the boy I left behind. All I want to do is rewind and make a different choice.
Jace
I thought I hated Lincoln when he ghosted me ten years ago and destroyed my heart. I thought I hated him when he wrote a chart-topping hit about our idyllic young love. But I’ve never hated him as much as I do right now, standing in front of me like he has every right to be in my world again. He’s not the rock god I thought he was…he’s still that same lost boy I used to love. Can I ever trust him with my heart again?
***Face the Music is the first book in the Replay series. Each book in the series will focus on a different band member getting a second chance at love. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. This book contains descriptions of self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and sexy times.
REVIEW:
I discovered this author when she started co-writing with one of my favorite authors. Turns out she is fast becoming a favorite one as well!
Lincoln is a big-time Rock Star worth multi-millions. He can buy anything he desires except the one thing he needs…the boy he left to become a rock star. So, instead of enjoying his riches and glory, he self harms (cutting) to take away the pain in his heart of the one true love he threw away. When Archer, the band Downward Spiral’s manager, discovers him almost frozen to death, he stops the impending tour and orders all the band members to take a break. Lincoln asks Archer to buy him the one place that he can think, his parent’s old cabin at the lake. Jace is a very successful epidemiologist in Seattle. But, when his fiancé drops him, he decides to go visit a place that is very special to him, even if it’s going to stir up a whole lot of memories. When both men run into each other shortly after arriving at the lake they are beyond shocked. But maybe this is just what they need to get each other out of their heads and hearts. Or is it?
At first I was really pissed at Lincoln. Not only did he throw away the love of a lifetime for a chance at stardom, but once he gets that he seems hell bent on destroying that too. And I have only been on the fringes of people who self harm by cutting. I know the pain of the blade is suppose to stop, for at least a brief moment, the pain in their lives. Linc’s parents were a piece of work and he was much better away from them. To tell you the truth, I have expected that they would have turned up demanding money from him but I don’t think his dad would have accepted it from a homosexual. He was just that disgusting. At least I thought I cared more about Jace. He also pursued his dreams of becoming a doctor. And he had seemed to have moved on from the trauma of Linc’s betrayal. But looks can be deceiving. Luckily his fiancé saw through him. But, as I got the whole story, Linc wormed his way into my heart (and thankfully Jace’s too!). They really are the perfect Soulmates who understand the other in a way no one else possibly could. It is so rare that someone so young gets it right. And the strength that can come from the support of a loved one can make almost anything happen. Including seeking the help you need to get better!
I love a good second chance love story and this is a really good one! I can’t wait for more of the this band’s stories. It turns out that there is a free prequel out “Rock Bottom”, something that seems to be a common occurrence with this author, that introduces you to all the band members and their manager. I wish that I had seen and read it before I started the book but it isn’t absolutely totally necessary, but is a good introduction to everyone. I love rock bands and their stories and I think we are in for a real treat with this series.
