Who brings a Glock on a honeymoon?
Not retired detective Gavin DeGrassi. When his husband Ben asks who he plans to shoot, Gavin has no answer. They’re spending three weeks in Ben’s family cabin near Seattle, not chasing down bad guys. Or are they?
Ben finds evidence the car accident that claimed his parents’ lives more than fifteen years ago was not so accidental. To avenge the Haversons, Gavin dusts off his detective skills and unknowingly paints a target on their backs. Suddenly, Ben is the prime suspect in a crime and the message couldn’t be clearer: drop the investigation or suffer untold consequences.
Gavin will stop at nothing to ensure Ben’s safety and bring the Haversons’ killers to justice, but without help, they’re sitting ducks. Gavin must make unlikely allies in his quest to clear Ben’s name and stop a ruthless crime syndicate. But with his loyalties divided, how far is too far in his quest for justice?
REVIEW:
Well, I’ve read the first couple of books in this series and missed the last one…however, I have to say that I felt that even missing that last book…that I own BTW…I don’t feel that I missed out in reading this book. I felt like as I knew the couple and some of the things that they’ve been thru…I could totally follow along…which made falling into this book all the better.
We pick up this book when the guys go on their honeymoon to WA and that’s when the story starts to pick up. Ben finds evidence that his late parents were murdered and it’s up to Gavin to figure out what happened. Then Ben is fingered for a crime that he didn’t commit and this story just keeps picking up speed and I wasn’t sure what was going to happen.
Gavin and Ben have been together awhile now and are both still trying to deal with the events of their capture and trying to come to terms with how they are going to deal with their respective feelings. I like that in this story, it was Ben who needed more comfort and needed to lean on Gavin more. I like that Gavin, who is still having issues with being fully restrained still gives of himself…still gave so much of his submission to Ben and showed that no matter what…that his love and devotion hasn’t gone away.
I love the fact that in these books, it’s not just the romance that is truly the star of the book….it’s the mystery that happens and what these guys have to go through to figure out what’s happening. I love the addition of Leo…the art thief in this story. Leo seems to be so much more that who and what you think of him. I really enjoyed his character. I liked that we got brief cameos from past characters in this book. It’s nice to see them as well as see that like life…things aren’t fixed overnight. That there is trauma in your life and sometimes…it takes lots of time in order for you to process that. Ben and Gavin…show us that throughout the entire story…they aren’t magically fixed. Yet, they are moving on with their lives and trying to live their best life.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this book as it allowed me to catch up with Ben and Gavin. I also like knowing that when I read these books…that there is romance and there is D/s in there…but truly the majority of this book is about the mystery/suspense. That I’ve going to be caught up in a book that makes me think and feel and truly sweep me away into the story.
This is a series that you don’t want to miss out on and if you have…go and get it and become fans of this wonderful series. Thank You, AJ for continuing Gavin and Ben’s story. I do love to see old friends and see how their lives have changed.
