BLURB:
A desperate young alpha. An older alpha with a hero complex. A forbidden love that can’t be denied.
Young Xan Heelies knows he can never have what he truly wants: a passionate romance and happy-ever-after with another alpha. It’s not only forbidden by the prevailing faith of the land, but such acts are illegal.
Urho Chase is a middle-aged alpha with a heartbreaking past. Careful, controlled, and steadfast, his friends dub him old-fashioned and staid.
When Urho discovers a dangerous side to Xan’s life that he never imagined, his world is rocked and he’s consumed by desire. The carefully sewn seams that held him together after the loss of his omega and son come apart—and so does he.
But to love each other and make a life together, Xan and Urho risk utter ruin. With the acceptance and support of Caleb, Xan’s asexual and aromantic omega and dear friend, they must find the strength to embrace danger and build the family they deserve.
This gay romance novel by Leta Blake is the second in the Slow Heat universe. It’s 130,000 words, with a strong happy ending and a well-crafted, non-shifter Omegaverse. It features alphas, betas, omegas, male pregnancy, heat, and knotting. No cheating. Content warning for brief sexual violence.
REVIEW:
This was a good book, but it started out a bit…slow maybe for me? I was having a hard time getting hooked at first. And then Xan’s whole issue along with Caleb and everything entwining them, and it became quite intriguing. I was wondering which way things were going to go.
Xan feels like such a failure. He’s an omega in an alpha body. Sure he has alpha tendencies, but when it comes to the bedroom and love, he’s all omega. And for wanting another alpha to have sex with him is forbidden. Against the law. And on top of that, when his alpha tendencies pop up, they don’t help his omega when Xan is needed. Caleb and Xan have a relationship that works for them. If Xan can find someone to give him what he needs without trying to kill him. And the one man he really wants, saw him at his work and Xan knows he thinks he’s disgusting now. But oh how he wished he could have Urho look at him with love and tenderness. When he’s forced to move by his father, things take a different turn. And now all parties involved have to figure out how to make it work and not harm anyone in any way in the process.
I don’t know why I love alpha/omegas so much but there’s just something about them. And i love the omegas more. They have more to them to me. And Xan…..my heart. That sweet boy. I know technically he’s an alpha, but he’s so omega it’s not even funny. But what I love the most of Xan is his heart. He’s got the biggest, softest heart ever. When he gets beaten, oh my gah, I wanted to crawl through the book and beat that Alpha’s ass. Xan can’t help he’s different and it’s bull that he can’t be the way he is meant to be. Sound familiar?? Assholes and their rules and laws and bigotries. And Caleb. He’s so perfect for Xan it’s not even funny. But sometimes you can’t help the way you are. Oh these two just have my heart. Getting to know Urho, at first, I wasn’t sure what to think about him. He seemed so arrogant and stuck up. But the more you get to know him, he’s perfect for Xan and Caleb and their situation. He’s the one missing element they didn’t know they needed and it made their circle complete. These guys have been through hell in their lives but having them brought together just made this book worthwhile.
I didn’t get to read the first book, so I was kinda flying blind, but I’d definitely recommend you guys read these books. It’s a roller coaster ride but so worth it.
