Riordan Darcy has spent the last fourteen years building a name for himself as a notorious assassin. He travels the world taking the lives of some of the worst humanity has to offer, leaving his signature on every victim.
Riordan becomes unhappy and withdrawn from the world after a job goes horribly wrong and he makes the decision to get out of the life he was forced into, so long ago. When his meddling, older sister gives him a birthday gift that’s impossible to refuse, his plans to leave his life of crime take a backseat when he’s forced to protect the life of a veritable stranger.
When professional hugger and TLC provider, Teddy Harris, is offered a month-long companionship contract, he’s hard pressed to turn it down. Cuddler by day and a video game reviewer by night, Teddy’s need to make people feel loved and cared for is what drives him. When he meets Riordan Darcy, professional challenge and personal temptation collide, making it nearly impossible for him to endure a whole month with the gorgeous, enigmatic man without falling head over heels in love.
When a mole is discovered within Riordan’s organization, relationships are compromised, and people’s lives are in danger. Time isn’t on their side, and they discover answers can’t always be found by hugging it out when someone is hell-bent on eliminating each and every one of them. Can Riordan and Teddy survive long enough to fall in love, or will they die trying?
Review:
Sometimes when I pick up a book for review, I think “well, what’s the worst that can happen?”
Books like “Hug It Out” make me so glad I took the chance.
I haven’t read the first book in this series but I will be looking for it because I really did adore this one.
The premise was intriguing. It’s not the first time I’ve heard of professional cuddlers and I think it’s a sweet idea.
Riordan does bad things to bad people. He isn’t particularly happy about it, but he is very definitely good at his job. A tragedy shakes him up badly and he starts looking for ways to escape the “cage” he’s found himself in. His sister, who doesn’t know what he does for a living, notices a change in him and decides to help him out…whether he wants her help or not.
Enter Teddy.
He is the sweetest human being and he is determined to make life better for people, to share what his grandmother passed on to him.
These two never would have met normally, but once they do, Teddy is sure he can help Riordan out with his problems. If the other man gives him a chance.
Riordan doesn’t know how to get out of the arrangement his sister made and once he meets Teddy, he’s not sure he wants to.
I had a lot of fun watching these two circle around each other. Teddy’s earnestness is something that Riordan didn’t think existed and its kind of adorable to watch him be drawn in with every kind word and gesture Teddy makes.
There’s some angst in this book. Enough to keep someone like me hooked that’s for sure. I always think the right amount of sad and angry makes the sweet stuff all the better.
The side characters in this story are interesting and some are compelling and I love it when the author makes you want to know them better.
This story is a bit of an emotional roller coaster but it was a ride I didn’t want to get off of. Trust me when I say that you will not be able to put it down once you get reading this amazing story.
Now excuse me, I’m off to look for book 1!
