More than anything, Pyro wishes for a heart mate of his own to come home to after the long nights of a hunt, one who understands him and his desires, who can hold him together when he needs to let go.
Life has always been planned out for Callum. His family of cops expected him to be a cop, so that’s what he became. But Callum isn’t so sure about being a detective for the Melbourne police. Not many people understand the demands of being a cop, and it’s been the downfall of more than one of his relationships. Why should his chance of loving someone get sidelined for a job he isn’t even sure he wants?
One fateful encounter on a fog-shrouded night changes both their worlds forever. Now Pyro just has to convince his heart mate they belong together while Callum tries to come to terms with a world he never knew existed and does his best to make up for accidentally shooting the unusual and intriguing hellhound.
REVIEW:
I’m enjoying this series to a ridiculous degree! As the previous book in the Hounds of the Hunt series was the first book that I’ve read by this author, I did wonder if it could be a bit of a fluke, but nah ah. I loved Pyro’s Accidental Shooting even more than Archie’s Accidental Kidnapping.
We were introduced to Hell Hound Pyro in the last book, as he and his five fellow hounds patrolled the streets of Melbourne, determined to save the poor unsuspecting humans from demons and angels gone bad. But although he spends his nights dealing with some super messed up situations, the last thing he expects is to discover his mate, about five seconds before said mate shoots him in the chest.
As with the first book, I loved the humor that the author infuses into the story. The dialogue between all of the characters kept me thoroughly entertained and some of the situations these men found themselves in were downright hilarious. I especially laughed when a sweet gesture like sending someone flowers could go so horribly wrong. But you know, when demons are involved, you never know what might happen.
Speaking of demons, the author has created some brilliant ones. I don’t know if these are “real” demons that she has found reference of somewhere or if they are entirely made up but they were original to me anyway. I loved that the author actually took the story into Hell, I did hope she would, and I enjoyed the circumstances around it.
Aside from all the demon hunting, there was a great deal of time spent on the characters in this story. I liked the parts of the story that included Callum’s family. And though other readers might think differently, I actually enjoyed the drama surrounding Callum’s father. Pyro and Callum were amazing together, and OMG, could their sex life get any hotter! I absolutely loved (yes, I’ve used that word a lot with this story) Pyro’s sexy underwear. I adore a big tough man who loves to wrap his ass in silk and lace and isn’t afraid to let his partner dominate him in bed. The other hellhounds also got some page time and it was great to see how Archie and Adze were now, after the trauma Archie suffered in the first book.
Could you read this as a standalone? Maybe, probably? It’s always hard to tell when you’ve read the other books too. But it’s definitely worth reading both of these stories. When I saw the page count I thought it was rather high for one of these shifter stories, and I thought it might drag a bit. But instead, I totally didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait to get the next book because who the hell knows what’s going to happen to these men next!
