Jeff had it all—a good job, a beautiful little boy, and a wife with a secret. But that’s okay because he has a secret of his own. Hopefully, by the time she trusts him enough to tell him hers, she’ll forgive him his.
Kaleb is finally settling with the many changes in his life, and he has spent his time ironing out the details and workload that came with the new pack, the promise to help the Order, and with getting to know the reborn Connor. Despite not finishing high school, Kaleb gets a great job as the assistant to both Alex and Pritchard at Browman and Son Auction—a job where his abilities as a half-breed are of vital importance to humanity. There are a few things he never expected to find at the auction house, though. One being a Captain, the other the knowledge that the Angels made a mistake.
REVIEW:
Here we are, back in Mr. Lyhne’s tale of the Earned, Witches, Gargoyles, Fairies, Demi-Gods, Angels…I could go on, but if you’re reading along you’ll understand. If you aren’t reading along, I’d recommend you get started on book one.
I really enjoy this series. There are a couple warnings that I want to give though. First and foremost, Mr. Lyhne has no idea how to write a book with an ending, in my humble opinion. Every one of his stories ends in a cliffhanger! This series reads like one long story, and as usual, this one ends midstream…again. I love the author and love the story. But seriously…would it hurt to have a HFN once in a while?
Okay, grumbling aside, let’s talk about this latest installment. We’re back focused on Kaleb. This time he is up against still more threats from the supernatural world. There is also this guy named Jeff, who I’ll be honest and tell you that I had a hard time figuring out at first. I was scratching my head trying to remember a character named Jeff. It made the beginning of the book a little slow for me as I tried to catch up, and then realized that I don’t believe we ever met Jeff previously. As the story progressed and we learned more details, the story’s pace picked up and I devoured the rest of the book in almost one sitting. Last night I closed my Kindle at 10PM knowing very well that I had to get up at 4AM to go to work. I didn’t quite finish, but I knew I had to quit. This book was the reason I had to drink about 4 large coffees to stay awake today.
I’m not going to give a ton of spoilers. Read the book for yourself. If you’re a fan of Mr. Lyhne, as I am, you will definitely enjoy it. I highly recommend it and the rest of the series. As for me? I’ll be here sullenly awaiting the next installment in this or Mr. Lyhne’s other series that I’m reading!
