BLURB: Lonely physiotherapist Harry Foster has the world at his feet. A full client list, a six figure Instagram following, and a publishing deal for a book he doesn’t have time to write until his agent offers him a break—a retreat to the wild south west coast.
Cornish horseman Joe Carter is lonely too. Rescuing horses and managing Whisper Farm takes up most of his days, and by night he plays chicken with the farm’s perilous bank accounts.
At his sister’s unwelcome suggestion, he rents his only bedroom to a bloke from the city, and when Harry arrives, he’s everything Joe isn’t—calm, patient, and gorgeous enough to be exactly the kind of distraction Joe doesn’t need.
Harry doesn’t have time for distractions either—even shirtless farmers riding bareback past his bedroom window—but his moody host proves impossible to ignore.
On paper, they have nothing in common, but Joe is beautiful…glorious, and when an accident puts his life in Harry’s healing hands, the whisper of true love is inevitable. If the trouble that put the farm on its knees in the first place doesn’t get in the way.
Another great story by Garrett Leigh! Joe has had a pretty tough life. He works hard and puts his all into his horse rescue farm, having to pick up the pieces of his drunkard father who has basically done nothing but let the family down. After Joe’s grandfather passed away, everything fell on Joe’s shoulders. How he manages to keep going is a mystery. As a means of making some money to help pay the bills, his sister talks him into renting a room for the summer, but he’s not happy about it. He comes from a line of Gypsies who are not quick to trust outsiders. In addition, the stress about his seemingly dire Farm situation contribute to his grumpy demeanor.
Harry is quite the opposite of Joe. He is a city slicker, fitness guru and successful physiotherapist. Needing to rid his life of distractions in order to focus on writing a book he’s committed to, his friend finds him the room for rent in the country. Needless to say, he’s a bit out of his element when he arrives at Whisper Farm. But, it doesn’t take long for him to realize how much he is benefiting from the change in environment and how much he is starting to care for Joe in the process.
Harry jumps in to help Joe on numerous occasions when crises arise with the various rescue animals. It isn’t until Joe is injured by the Farm’s unruly stallion that Harry truly realizes how much his feelings for Joe have grown. Joe shares the feelings, but knowing Harry has a life in the City at the end of the summer makes him a bit hesitant.
I loved watching this relationship build. Both characters are really likable, and it was really interesting learning more about the Gypsy people, including Joe’s family. His sister was a great character as well. Her disability was something that gave her and Harry a connection for a number of reasons, and she was a total spitfire despite it. I also love when a story has you guessing on how the characters will end up making a life together, and I was really happy with how the pieces all fell into place here. You really can’t go wrong with a Garret Leigh book, and this one is no different. Definitely recommend.
