The angels exiled him and stripped him of his wings. Now they want his help.
The last thing he needs is to fall for one….
Half-angel Dashiell Lam has a lot of reasons to distrust angels after they exiled him four years ago. When angel Cael Moriah comes looking for him, Dashiell’s certain he’s no different—even if Cael’s the most gorgeous angel Dashiell’s ever seen. Dashiell’s instinct is to send him packing, but he can’t deny the effect Cael has on him. Then Cael makes him an offer he can’t refuse: help him, and the angels will restore his wings.
Cael’s done everything the angelic order has ever asked of him, but working with a jaded fallen angel? Not part of the plan. But he has a mission to complete, and Dashiell’s the only one who can help him. It doesn’t matter that Dashiell inspires a very un-angelic desire in him. The last thing he needs is to get involved with someone who thinks angels are the enemy.
Angels aren’t supposed to form attachments—and they definitely aren’t supposed to fall in love. But sometimes even angels can’t resist temptation. Can an angel and fallen half-angel work together to save the world—and each other?
REVIEW:
This was one interesting book! Of course I love the angels and demons and gods and demigods and the struggle for power. There were some nice little twists in here, too, that I was so not expecting. Made things all that much more intriguing.
There always seems to be a struggle for power in any realm. Everyone wants to be the best or are greedy to be the head honcho. They never settle for ‘second best’. Dashiell knows firsthand what happens. He was caught in the middle. A hybrid, half angel/half human. Because of his stance on some things, like how others are treated and how some act too big for their britches, it caused Dashiell to be stripped of his wings and a lot of his powers. So when he sees the angel, Cael, walk in the bar looking for him, he figures he’s about to be murdered. Either by the Malachim (angels) or the demigod Illan Kane, who he went against. Dashiell wanted things to change for the better, not have a war. But one ensued and it cost a lot of lives in a lot of realms. But Cael isn’t there to kill him, he needs help. Because the once thought Kane is still alive, when Dashiell thought he was dead. Dashiell says no, but can’t resist the angel after seeing him the next morning. It leads them on a quest they were not ready for. The betrayals at every corner. The secrets being hidden. And most of all, a huge lie and revelation that Cael and Dashiell find out about Kane and one Cael finds out about Dashiell. Now they have to figure what to do and how to fix another annihilation before it starts. And learn who can be trusted and who can’t.
I tell you, there were some major surprises that popped up for me. And it made me feel for Dashiell so much. He’s already snubbed because he’s half human. He doesn’t know who his father is or his background. He just figures it was a small angel who loved his mother. His mom, for years after it happens, would sit in church and gaze upon the angel statues. He knew she missed whoever he was. But now being stripped of his grace, his wings, over something that really wasn’t his fault. It about made him literally crazy. He almost lost his mind. It was a tough blow. After that, he just figured he was in for borrowed time. He learned a lot about his fellow angels and their heavenly homes. He learned how demons really got to be where they were. And everything in between. And it’s made him not trusting to almost anyone. All because he wanted to make things right. He feels like a fool at times, played like a puppet by both sides. So when he sees Cael, he figures he’s finally dead. They’ve finally come to kill him off. Truth is, there was a lot of shady stuff going on. Cael, bless his little naive heart, had no clue about most of it. But he caught on quick. He made connections that weren’t there before and knew the higher ups were hiding a lot. And he felt shamed that the beings he knew could be this deceitful. But the attraction, between these two didn’t help. They tried to stay apart. But they called to each other. In ways that were never felt before. And to them it was worth what they were going to have to go through and endure to make everything right and uncover all the crap.
Man we got some greedy, greedy beings. Liars, manipulative beings. You wouldn’t think beings would be that way, but no one is perfect. And greed gets to everyone at some point. It’s just how far it’s taken. And these beings were wanting to go to far. But it was a great read. So interesting to see the way it went. I definitely recommend it.
