Edward Grey is no stranger to the undead; since raising his cat as a zombie when he was a child, he and his mentor Mariel have explored and developed his power as a necromancer. Despite everything he’s learned, as a necromancer and a medical student, he’s never encountered a ghost.
While Mariel is unreachable in Haiti on mysterious business, a ghost wakes Edward in the middle of the night, claiming to be his grandfather. When the ghost offers to teach him about this different form of undeath, Edward has little choice but to trust the spirit.
After receiving a phone call from a young girl claiming her father is possessed, Edward and his Undead Canadian fiancé, Kit, must travel to an acreage in Kingston…Ontario.
The haunting proves far more complicated than Edward could ever have guessed, and he finds himself pitted against an ancient evil determined to engulf everyone on the farm.
Edward’s love and connection to Kit will be tested, and his necromancy stretched to his limits as he has to find—and destroy—a twisted spirit more powerful than anything he’s ever encountered.
REVIEW:
I really love this series. It’s so different. It’s sassy, sexy and full of fun. It’s just gets better and better to me. I’m very anxious to read when they get married. And what happens then. But this story causes Edward to face a side to him he’s not known yet. And it’s scary.
Edward was just getting cozy in bed with Kit when he gets a surprise visit from a ghost claiming to be his grandfather. But he’s confused because he knows who his grandparents were. But he finds out his father was adopted and this is his paternal grandfather. He also realizes for the first time, he is seeing ghosts. He grandfather gives him some useful information on what he really is. And after visiting the graveyard where his grandfather is buried, he realizes more to his gift. And it’s a good thing because he is called to help someone with a ghost problem and his mentor is gone. He goes to help this family with the possession and realizes the ghost is sweet and is trying to protect this family. He also realizes there is a very dark presence surrounding this family and farm and it is strong. He is forced into some confrontations with this being and it nearly kills him and takes his fiancé.
Oh sweet shy Edward. He is put to the test in this book. He learns he has powers he didn’t know of. He finally starts seeing ghosts. Which he finds out later why he hasn’t yet. He gets put in a confrontation with a being he’s never encountered. He almost loses his life several times and almost loses the love of his life. All while trying to plan a wedding and learn how far his powers really go. He’s terrified and doesn’t know how to handle things. He’s afraid of the power he’s come into because he doesn’t want to become evil. He loves his life with Kit and wants to stay with him for years to come. I love how their relationship how grown stronger. Kit is as snarky as ever. And the quips they share back and forth is so fun. But all this puts a new spin on their relationship and they realize they need each other more than ever. With secrets revealed, bonds made stronger, lives changed, they endure an adventure they never thought possible.
I am so loving this series. It is just the best. So fun and different. It’s been such a joy to read and I can’t wait to read the next one or more from this author.
