In 2068, androids are an integrated part of human life. Big Brother no longer just watches from the shadows. It’s in every household.
Lloyd Salter has OCD issues with noise, mess, and he’s uncomfortable with human interaction. When his ex claimed the only thing perfect enough to live up to his standards was an android, Lloyd dismissed it. But two years later, after much self-assessment, Lloyd thinks he may have been right.
SATinc is the largest manufacturer of androids in Australia, including the Fully Compatible Units known as an A-Class 10. Their latest design is the Synthetic Human Android UNit, otherwise known as SHAUN.
Shaun is compatible with Lloyd’s every need; the perfect fit on an intellectual and physical basis. But Lloyd soon realises Shaun’s not like other A-Class androids. He learns. He adapts. Sure that SATinc is aware Shaun functions outside of his programmed parameters, Lloyd must find a way to keep Shaun safe.
No one can know how special Shaun is. No one can know he’s evolved.
REVIEW:
Normally I’m not big on sci-fi or futuristic books, but come on this was written by N.R. Walker so I just had to give it a try. She’s written so many great books and this one promised to be something entirely different.
Lloyd is looking for his perfect mate, that special someone that he can share his life with. Due to his OCD and some other issues he acquires Shaun, the latest A-Class android specifically designed and programmed for him. Only Shaun is so much more than he ever bargained for.
I won’t lie to you, the first chapter felt a bit weird. It felt clinical and I was a touch uncomfortable, with the whole “build your perfect mate” concept and how it was portrayed. Perhaps it was intentional on Walker’s part, or it was entirely on me – who knows?
Then we got the kind of story we’ve come to expect from Walker. No one does sweet stories quite like her and Evolved is tight up there with the rest of them It sweet and at times innocent. And even more than that, this book was sexier than I expected from this kind of story. The steam factor is definitely set to high with this one.
I loved the relationship between Lloyd and Shaun. It was beautiful, they connected on all planes. Which also makes this story a bit iffy for me, because when all things are set and done, bottom line is that Shaun was still programmed to like and respond to Lloyd in all ways; intellectually and physically. This also gave the relationship the feeling of insta-love. Another thing that made their relationship uneven was the no orgasm alone thing, that didn’t sit quite right with me and it made them feel imbalanced.
I read and devoured this book in one sitting and I had a blast reading it, a lot more than I thought I would. There were some niggles but hey no one is perfect, and I absolutely recommend this story to N.R. Walker fans and anyone looking for some human-android interactions.
