I’m Tammy, I’ve been lucky enough to be a reviewer for Love Bytes for three years! A friend who knew I love to read suggested I become a reviewer and the rest as the saying goes is history.
I still love reading books of all genres. The only thing I struggle with is books written in the first person because for me this makes for a very one-dimensional story. One of the good things about being a reviewer is that I’ve been able to read a lot of different authors that I would never have read before. I tend to be a very visual reader, by that I mean that if a book has a “disappointing” cover I will avoid it. One of my pet peeves with covers is if the cover doesn’t follow ny part of the story (if the people on the cover look nothing in the story)
Unfortunately I don’t get to read many books right now as I’ve become a sole parent and am currently going through a divorce right now. Thankfully Dani is incredibly understanding when we have personal issues to deal with. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to write a lot more reviews for love Bytes Reviews!!

I’m sorry you’re going through rough time, Tammy – I hope everything will settle soon.
I share your feeling on books cover go the opposite directions from the stories. In that case (not that I don’t appreciate the cover artist’s work) I’ll immediately skip to story page and try not to dwell on the cover so much. Not easy though.
Covers tend to be one of the big things that draws me in. In fact it is one of the things that got me started on mm books. Taken in Hand by Shannon West kept hitting my suggestion list and i just couldn’t tear my eyes away from that cover, but it was mm, so i would bypass it, till one day i gave in and bought it ‘just to see what it was all about’. And the rest is history.
Thanks for the post! I am sorry you are going through a divorce. Hopefully, things will settle for you soon.
Some covers definitely draw me in, but fortunately, if the story is good but the cover bad, I can push the cover out of my mind.
Thanks for reviewing for Love Bytes, Tammy. Hopefully things will improve and you can review more.
I don’t pay much attention to covers. Only if I’m browsing do covers come into play, as some catch your eye more than others, but it doesn’t affect whether or not I get a book.
I’m sorry things are rough right now! I hope reading is giving you comfort. While some covers really intrigue me, they’re not a dealbreaker either way…
Thank you for the post, I hope everything will get better. It always happens with time… As for covers, they are important for me… A good cover may catch your eye and raise your interest, while a hideous one… well…
hope things improve for you soon Tammy
I also hate when a cover doesn’t match anything in the story or is ugly :\ it really can take you away from even pursuing the story
Thanks for being a reviewer. Hope things improve for you.
I am so sorry your life is o a rough patch. It will get better.
A cover is what attracts me to the book in the first place. I agree that if I am reading and the cover has nothing to do with the book I kind of get turned off by the book.
Thank you for the post. I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through a difficult time. I hope things resolve itself sooner than later. I usually don’t depend on just the covers in decisions on whether or not to buy or read a book but everyone is different and if it works for you why knock it.
All the best for the future. I hope things will get better for you soon *hugs*
I used to focus a lot on book covers, when deciding what to read next. But then I read a few really really really good books with nondescript covers and I started paying more attention to the blurb and ratings. Still, I think a cover should be at least somewhat attractive. Also, if there are people on the cover, they should resemble the people in the book to a certain degree.
Covers intrigue me. But I hate when they don’t match the story. Hope things get better for you
Sorry to hear about your situation…hoping for the best for you!
Covers need to be eye catching but I don’t tend to reply on them or be bothered by them overly much (though recently I read a story with late 40’s MC and it had 20 something cover models which did annoy me)
single person first person annoys me as we don’t get to the other characters thoughts and it can seem as if leaps of logic have happened. generally if written well I don’t mind any style of writing but badly done, any style does pull you out of the story
hope all goes well from now on for you Tammy
You will get past this!
I can imagine just how difficult this period is for you. I really hope everything will turn out best for you and your child(ren).
I hope, too, that there are many books and many reviews for you in the future. And most importantly, that you’ll manage to deal with all that’s happening.
I read mostly mm but sometimes I have this need o read something completely different, most of the time it’s y/a fantasy.
Good luck with your things!
