A warm welcome to author Kris T. Bethke who stops by love bytes to talk about her new release “Lost Souls Found”.
Welcome Kris 🙂
Hello! I’m Kris T. Bethke, and I’m so glad to be stopping by Love Bytes today to talk about my newest release, Lost Souls Found. Thanks to the crew here for hosting me!
Sam Jones first took shape in the first book in the Requiem Inc. Series. Since he’s Blake’s younger brother, he stormed onto the page showing his slightly snarky, mostly playful side. But he also showed his heart. He was shy about showing how much he loved his brother, and he certainly didn’t hide his love for their boss.
From the moment I thought of Sam—more so than maybe any character I’ve written—I knew him inside and out. I knew exactly who he was and how he behaved and thought. He’s a little bit selfish, but not too much, and he has patience for miles. He’s loving and loveable, and he’s fiercely loyal. He can get a bit whiny, on occasion, but he also knows when it’s time to buckle down and do the thing. He’s a ghostwalker, and he take great pride in dying so that he can help trapped souls cross over.
He’s also half in love with his boss, and has been for ten years.
It’s a tough spot to be in, and Sam walks a fine line. Of course, he eventually reaches his breaking point and that’s the catalyst for things to move forward between them. Michael King has very definitive ideas about what is right, and Sam knows that he can’t make Michael change his mind. But it is a romance, so things will eventually work out between them.
Writing a character like Sam was a lot of fun. I also immensely enjoyed writing scenes from his POV, and he was easier for me to write. I got him so completely that his chapters flew, and he made things easy on me. When I was writing chapters from Michael’s POV, it was Sam’s reactions and thoughts that dictated how the scenes would go, even though I was in Michael’s head at the time.
I adore him, and I love that I finally got to give him his happy ever after. He deserves it, more than he knows, and figuring out all the ways things hand to change and shift in order to give it to him was a wonderful challenge.
Sam stole my heart when he was just Blake’s little brother, and I knew he needed his own story. I hope you get a chance to check it out. Lost Souls Found is available now.
Blurb:
Dying is all in a day’s work. Love is more dangerous.
Ghostwalker Sam Jones has been half in love with Michael King since he started working at Requiem Inc. But Michael is his boss and a Guardian, to boot. Sam thinks they could make it work anyway, but Michael uses his position and his age to keep Sam at arm’s length.
When Sam continues to volunteer for the most dangerous cases, Michael has to intervene. He tells himself he’s just doing his job, but he’s always seen Sam as more than another operative, and he can’t bear the thought of not taking his chance. The connection between them has been strong from the beginning, and Michael’s telepathy adds unexpected depth and an edge to their new romance, but working together while they try to build their relationship might be the hardest part of their job if they don’t make some sacrifices.

She spends most of her free time reading, writing, or knitting/crocheting her latest project. Her biggest desire is to find a way to accomplish all three tasks at one time. A classic muscle car will always turn her head, and naps on the weekend are one of her greatest guilty pleasures. She lives in a converted attic with a way too fluffy cat and the voices in her head. She’ll tell you she thinks that’s a pretty good deal. Kris believes that love is love, no matter the gender of people involved, and that all love deserves to be celebrated.
