A Second Chance Romance
Tucker thought he had it all: a promising career in football, a huge house, and enough money to be set for life. But everything changed after he rescued a woman from a burning car. After the injuries he sustained, his football career is over, and the fame he once enjoyed is now crushing him on his difficult road to recovery.
There is, however, a glint of hope in his life when he’s reunited with his high school sweetheart, Ryan. Tucker soon realizes his forced retirement from football is nothing compared to the regret he carries for having ever left Ryan behind. But is Ryan willing to give him a second chance?
Ryan has had great success as a therapy dog trainer, but despite that, he remains hopelessly single. Nobody compares to Tucker, his old high school sweetheart, and he’s pretty much accepted that his dogs will be his only companions in life. But soon a bittersweet opportunity arises when he learns of Tucker’s condition.
Ryan believes he can help Tucker with the aid of a special shelter dog and, perhaps, help himself too. He wants nothing more than to rekindle their past love, but is Tucker willing to take that step?
Love in Overtime is a standalone novel featuring two hot men, one sweet rescue dog, and a happy ending for all three of them!
REVIEW:
New author for me with a catchy blurb.
Everything Tucker knew in his life was suddenly yanked from him when he came to the recurve of a woman in a burning car. His NFL Star football career is gone. He is left crippled and disfigured from the good deed. With some help from his close knit family he has his ex re-enter his life. Ryan is a very successful therapy dog trainer that has never gotten over the exit of his first love/high school sweetheart. They knew that parting was the best thing to do with them each going in different walks of life. When Tucker’s parents and him see how miserable Tucker is with no signs of coming out of his depression and the anxieties that have manifested as a result of the accident and injuries, Ryan knows he has to step in to help his former love. With the aid of Ryan and a sweet black shepherd Morgan, Tucker not only discovers that there is still a life worth living in the real world but a possibility of a second chance at love with the sexy and wonderful man that slipped through his fingers before.
I don’t want to give the impression that this is a bad book. My problem was that it is very lacking which is disappointing because the premise is great. It’s like a good basic draft but lacks the pizzazz, depth and polish I look for. I liked all the characters, including the dog Morgan, however they were a bit one dimensional. Also things seemed to be always a quick fix. One day Tucker is barely able to function on his own and then whamo, he is walking without a cane and driving. I would have like to have seen a bit more development and the struggles that someone with this type of catastrophic injury endures. I know from experience that recovery from an injury, if not consistently worked on with your physical therapy, is not going to miraculously heal with a couple therapy sessions. I also had hoped to hear and learn more about the training of the therapy dogs.
Like I said, I was a bit disappointed, but it was still a sweet love story. I just wish it had been more developed.
