A Requiem Inc. Story
Dying is all in a day’s work. Love is more dangerous.
Ghostwalker Sam Jones has been half in love with Michael King since he started working at Requiem Inc. But Michael is his boss and a Guardian, to boot. Sam thinks they could make it work anyway, but Michael uses his position and his age to keep Sam at arm’s length.
When Sam continues to volunteer for the most dangerous cases, Michael has to intervene. He tells himself he’s just doing his job, but he’s always seen Sam as more than another operative, and he can’t bear the thought of not taking his chance. The connection between them has been strong from the beginning, and Michael’s telepathy adds unexpected depth and an edge to their new romance, but working together while they try to build their relationship might be the hardest part of their job if they don’t make some sacrifices.
REVIEW:
I enjoyed this story. It was relatively low angst which is perfect for me right now and it hit all the high notes of a satisfying Dreamspun Beyond Romance.
I loved the tension that was so evident between these men. Knowing they had a history was one thing, but I was able to feel that history leap off the page. I could feel the desire and the frustration at being denied, and the longing, and when they finally gave in, WOW I could feel that built up passion. As the story moved on, the emotions and the love between these men was palpable and contributed greatly to me believing they were meant to be together forever. I never once questioned this romance.
I thought this world was very imaginative and loved the idea of helping souls pass on to the light. I loved the different roles involved and how they interacted with the souls and each other. Knowing the inherent qualities of ghostwalkers and anchors and then seeing them manifest inthe characters worked very well for me. And I loved learning how the “mundane” world interacted in both positive and negative ways.
I didn’t know this was the second in a series, but I feel like I didn’t need to. I understood the concepts and roles easily though I am sure I would have gotten more if I had read them in order. I fully intend to go back and read the first in this series. I need Blake’s story.
I recommend this one. It was a great addition to the Dreamspun Beyond line of books. It was an easy and fun read that left me very satisfied and wanting more in this series. I can’t wait for Avery’s book. I am so invested in his outcome.
