REVIEW by Kat
I am on shaky ground here and I admit it! I am a huge Nora Phoenix fan since I discovered her last year. And seeing it was a MMMM mpreg made me jump for it because I’m not sure anyone can do that many multiple partners as well as NORA. However, I soon discovered, this ties loosely to shifter mpreg…something I had no clue about at all! So this is a review from a complete novice to this sort of book.
Palani, a beta, is desperate to save his best friend and lover Vieno, an omega, before his next heat kills him. He enlists the help of a doctor that is recommended to him, Enar “an OB/gyn and reproductive specialist who focused on helping omegas who had nowhere else to go”. When Enar sees the condition the young man is in he knows that he needs to mate with an Alpha to save his life. However ethically, and with the medications he is on, he knows he can’t be that Alpha. He calls in a favor from his best friend Lidon, a police detective. He knows that Lidon needs this almost as badly as Vieno. What unfolds from this coupling is both surprising and heartbreaking. What happens when four men’s lives crash into each other in order to save one sweet omega?
As I stated, I have no knowledge of wolf shifter books except for when I helped my daughter with her book reports in middle school on the Twilight series, so I was way, way out of my league here…or so I thought. Betas…I didn’t even know what those were or that they even existed! But here’s the thing…it didn’t really matter! Nora’s writing is so captivating that before I even realized it I was over 70% into the book…it was that good! Each of these men had their own unique life story and they made me want, no need, for them to succeed. And if you think that two men is a sexy story then hold on to your boots because four will blow you away! And those of you that know me know that I have no patience so it is a good thing that I never saw the blurb before I read the book because the evil “C” word (cliffhanger!) came to be.
The positive thing about Nora’s books are that I haven’t had to wait for long periods of time to get the next in the series. This book and series is destined to be epic I believe. There is intrigue, danger, sizzling hot sex and gorgeous, sexy men. That is the makings of a great series in my opinion. I do have to warn you that there are some “off-the-page” triggers (Please note there are trigger warnings for mentions of rape, sexual assault, suicide, miscarriages, and abortion (all off-page) and depression (on-page story element) that are mentioned at the beginning of the book. I for one am hooked and, can’t believe that I am saying this but, I may have become a fan of a new genre for me!
REVIEW by Becca
Well I had a funny time with this book. When I got asked to do this with Kat, I was told I was alpha/omega/beta, (which everyone knows is my obsession lol), and I, of course, said yes. I meant to read the blurb to get an idea of what was going on, but I got sucked into the book and well lol. Needless to say the blurb never got read. I had no idea it was a MMMM. And I was about to be really upset. The more I delved into this book the sadder I got about these guys getting separated and divided and lumped together differently. Everyone was sad and no one could figure out what was up and I was ripping my hair out going OMG!! But this book was amazing. The only reason I even put it down was because I had a headache. And I tried to read through it. It’s so goooooood.
Vieno and Palani have been together for 3 years. Vieno an omega. Palani a beta. Because Palani is not an alpha, he cannot give Vieno what he needs during his heat. And it’s killing them. Vieno quite literally. Enar is a doctor, an alpha with beta tendencies, who helps people. And a lot of it illegally. He’s called in to see what can be done to save sweet Vieno. He knows what Vieno needs but because Vieno was raped before, no one wants to call in a random alpha. Knowing his best friend Lidon, an alpha, is on the edge from lack of sex, he figures Lidon can help Vieno through his heat and give them both everything they need. Which means Palani has to watch his lover mate with another man. And Enar has to stay as a doctor to make sure all is ok. Afterward, Vieno is much better but it’s a hard thing to get over. Everyone is feeling everything about each other. There’s lust, desire, guilt, and a whole lot more. When another situation arises, Lidon is asked to marry and mate Vieno. He does. And what should be a happy time since they are mated, turns out to be awful. Palani is Vieno’s soulmate and vice versa. Enar feels like he’s losing everyone. All this in the midst of an investigation that puts them all in danger. They must figure out a way to stay safe and figure out how to all coexist. And what they learn leaves them all breathless and surprised. Maybe they will all get their happily ever after.
Holy hells bells. Ok. First of all. Cliffhanger. Oh my gah. What a way to end it. Wow. I need more!!! Second of all, these characters. They are so complex. Each has a side to them that is unseen and when it comes out it’s breathtaking. Lidon, being the hardass, no nonsense, gruff alpha, becomes the sweetest, kindest, softest man who tries so hard to care for those around him. Especially Vieno. Vieno, who’s supposed to be this docile, meek omega, and he is in some ways, but he has a backbone of steel. He voices his opinion even when he’s terrified to do so. Afraid of the repercussions. Enar, a supposed hard ass alpha, likes being dominated and taken. He also stands up for what is right, even when he knows it could cost him his job and reputation. And gorgeous Palani. The beta who is often overlooked because he’s stuck in between. He’s too much in some ways and not enough in others. His job as a journalist often seems like he’s getting nowhere but his nose sniffs out everything. He stands up and go against those who are wrong at the cost of his life. All of these guys are so different but inexplicably drawn together by fate. They bob and weave against all they comes against them and come together in a way that no one expected. But hey. To be happy sometimes you have to do the unexpected.
Of course, I was hooked. Alphas/omegas. I mean, come on. Lol. But this really is an excellent book. Very well written. But do take care if you have triggers. There are mentions of rape. Nothing too graphic but still have a care. I really recommend it. It sucks you in and leaves you wanting for more.
