Hi folks!
Dan here. Today I’m wearing my reviewer hat, as opposed to the writer hat I wear when I do those posts as Daniel. 😊
So…what can I say from the reviewer side? I have to give Dani credit for a lot. When Max Vos recommended I get in touch with her back in 2014 about reviewing, I was a little hesitant. Sure, I loved his books and Sandrine’s books, but I also “knew” Max and Sandy from private Facebook groups. I’d also read a lot of books by others, but not in a reviewing sort of way. I was simply a pleasure reader…hopping from author to author as I discovered other books. I was finding a lot of them in my local library system, which surprisingly has quite a large assortment of m/m fiction…which I attribute to that head librarian who sets off my gaydar pings…but that is another story. I was also a latecomer to a Kindle. I’d had it about a year at that point and was loving those books I was stumbling onto on Amazon. I had read Max’s books and Sandrine’s books and somehow through Sandy’s small private group at the time I managed to become friends with both of them…as well as Matt, Tim, Dennis, Tara and some others. If you read my author’s post after she passed, you’ll know that I personally have Sandrine to thank for getting the courage to write in the first place, but Max also had a big part in it.
Immediately upon joining Love Bytes, my first review was of Sandy’s “A Working Man” on October 4, 2014. At the time, I was out on disability, having been told by all my doctors that I had a very limited shelf-life and I might want to consider doing all those things on my bucket list. So, what did I do? I signed up for as many books as Dani could give me and at one point was publishing a review almost daily.
To date I’m currently at 710 reviews on Love Bytes since then…not including the 5 or 6 books sitting in my TBR pile as we speak. I’ve become friends with many of the authors whose books I’ve reviewed. While many are only on Facebook, I feel I know them through personal messages and posts. I met a bunch in person at Rainbow Con in Tampa a couple years ago, and then a couple others while traveling. I’m hoping to meet lots more when I go to GRL in Portsmouth Virginia this fall. I’ll be attending as a supporting author. I’m still feeling a little like a fraud, but Dani will be there with me, so it will be cool.
Meeting Dani in person was a milestone. I met both her and Marieke the same weekend, and Dani and I stayed overnight at Max’s house, so we could catch up with him and with Matt. I can’t wait to see her this fall.
I absolutely love reviewing at Love Bytes. The team is fantastic. We’ve had reviewers come and go, but the core people that were here when I joined are still here today. We’ve all had ups and downs, and life has definitely gotten in my way once in a while. I’m now off disability completely and working a job which requires 50 hours a week (hourly not salary, so not bad) and I’m 2/3 of the way through writing my fourth book. I’m also still reading and reviewing. Someone told me recently that they had lots of free time…I almost hit them. 😉
I highly recommend, if you’re interested in reading tons of books and are willing to write a clear and honest review on them, hit up Dani to see what her needs are. With some of us slowing down, there are lots of books needing reviews.
Thanks for following my reviews along my mad journey. Going forward…I’ll still be around, so keep following those reviews please!
Oh…and by the way. Because I’m also that Daniel guy…if you haven’t read my books, look below for a chance to win copies of the first two books in my alternate world…guy from here rides through a tunnel on a motorcycle and ends up somewhere else…trilogy.
Have a great day! I’ll end with one of my favorite sayings…don’t forget the dash!
As Dan mentioned in his post he is giving away his first two books in his series 🙂

Daniel Mitton is not a statistic. When the doctors broke the news to him that he would be dead by the end of 2013 from brain cancer, he scoffed at them. He has proven them incorrect, and continues to prove them more incorrect every day.
He is now pursuing his lifelong dream of telling other people his stories in writing. His overactive imagination used to get him in trouble, it will be interesting to see if that continues to be true. Daniel tends to write what he knows, but any resemblance to his own life is purely circumstantial, and he will admit to nothing. He really did live in the barracks next to that creepy old haunted looking prison in New Hampshire, and might have made forays into its dark depths…but since that might be considered unlawful…we won’t talk about that.
The idea for the Wizard Shifter series came to him while he was riding through the Pine Mountain Tunnel in North Carolina and a ‘what if’ moment hit him. In real life he has a husband of nearly twenty-nine years named Stephen…who might get just a little upset if Daniel ran off into some foreign world with a bear shifter named Rafe.
Book three is in the final draft stage. Daniel just wishes the characters wouldn’t talk so much in his head…the story just keeps getting longer.
Daniel was born and raised in northern New Hampshire, but now lives in sunny Southwest Florida with that husband of nearly twenty-nine years and their pain in the butt cat, Cooper. He totally doesn’t get why some people complain it is too hot in Florida!
And on top of that we are giving away a $5 Store credit to JMS Books
Great article! Thanks for The giveaway Dan! What is required to be a reviewer for Love Bytes?
I’m glad that you get to live the life that you want. My dad was given a terminal diagnosis over 10 years ago and is still here. The doctors aren’t always right!

I especially liked the bracelet with the dash…I’m vowing to do more dashing! Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your personal story, Dan. It’s always great to see people keeping their chin up despite being told otherwise *hugs* Writing more than 700 reviews is also quite a feat. Really helpful for the ones, who need a bit more incentive than just a blurb.
What a grand number of reviews Dan – I know I have picked up more than a few from reading your comments!
And what a great motto – living the dash!!!
