BLURB:
Someone is trying to kill Marc Foster.
Attempted poisoning was bad enough, but when the would-be killer messes with the brakes on Marc’s precious Porsche, the art dealer admits he needs help. He just wasn’t expecting help to be quite so dark and sexy.
Royce Karras loves his job at Ward Security. He’s making up for a lifetime of bad decisions and a bloody past he’d rather forget. But Marc isn’t the spoiled rich boy he thought he’d be protecting. Sticking close to Marc as his “boyfriend” gives Royce insight into his toxic family, but it also reveals a brilliant, compassionate man who completely disarms Royce. Against his better judgment, Royce finds himself falling.
But can they find a way to make it work when Royce’s past threatens to tear their lives apart? Their futures hinges on a lost Renaissance painting, six Bichon Frises, and a pornographic Robin Hood.
No worries, right?
This is one of those series written by a dynamic duo of authors that you just know will delivery each and every time. Often, I don’t even bother to read the blurb before starting it , and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Yes, the stories all have a similar theme – bodyguard/mercenary falls for their charge. But, somehow, these authors are able to put a unique spin on each one making them interesting and fun reads.
Here, we have broody and quiet Royce, whom we’ve met previously. He’s the lucky one chosen to help rich artist/art gallery owner Marc with his little problem by posing as Marc’s boyfriend while they try to solve the mystery. It seems there have been a few attempts on his life, and he has suspicions that it might be one of his siblings trying to do him in, though he cannot conceive of why. Their chemistry is quickly off the charts, and while Marc feels that can’t possibly not be real on some level, Royce is a bit more hesitant. His past prevents him from allowing himself to feel more, especially once he learns of Marc’s heart defect. But it isn’t easy to keep the walls up against Marc’s charms.
There were some frustrating parts to this story, mostly involving Royce, and there were some parts that seemed a little slow. But, rest assured, the action picks up and there are plenty of hot smexy times to go with the heartwarming stuff. There is humor and sexual tension, sadness and mystery – everything these authors are known for. This ended up being another interesting and exciting addition to the series that left me already looking forward to the next one.
