BLURB:
Take a vacation, they said. Get away from Silicon Valley’s back-stabbing and power-grabbing. Recharge the innovative batteries. Unwind, then come back stronger than ever.
Instead, I got lost at sea and fell in love with an anti-social lobsterman.
There’s one small issue:
Owen Bartlett doesn’t know who I am. Who I really am.
~~
I don’t like people.
I avoid small talk and socializing, and I kick my companions out of bed before the sun rises.
No strings, no promises, no problems.
Until Cole McClish’s boat drifts into Talbott’s Cove, and I bend all my rules for the sexy sailor.
I don’t know Cole’s story or what he’s running from, but one thing is certain:
I’m not letting him run away from me. .
This book ended up being a great surprise. Cole is a techie genius who founded his own extremely successful company. Unfortunately, he is being ousted by his Board and is off on an encouraged sabbatical. While off on a solo sailing trip, he runs into some trouble when his navigation goes out. Lucky for him, he finds his way into Owen’s cove.
Owen is a bit of a loner, choosing to spend his time alone in his cabin in the cove. He ends up sort of rescuing Cole, and it doesn’t take long to see he cares far more than his gruff exterior lets on. He offers a room to Cole while he recovers from some minor injuries and waits for new parts.
Owen and Cole end up being the perfect opposites attract, complementing each other in various ways. Cole quickly realizes that Owen is getting to know a different side of himself than he has shown everyone else. Therefore, he continues to keep his identity somewhat of a mystery. Owen is a bit sheltered, so he doesn’t recognize Cole’s name or know anything about him, other than what he sees in front of him.
Owen has been hurt before by men who have found him good enough for summer flings but not enough to stick around. So, he is hesitant to really open up to Cole. But Cole wiggles his way under Owen’s skin, as he spends the summer being Owen’s deckhand in exchange for lodging, though that quickly becomes more. Their banter and interactions were fabulous. I loved watching Cole finding love and a new focus in life. They were perfect for each other, and I ended up really enjoying their relationship grow.
I believe this is Ms. Canterbary’s first attempt at MM, and I sure hope she ends up writing more, as it was a well-written and smooth reading story that I found to be heartwarming and very enjoyable.
