REVIEW:
Consorting with Dragons is one of those books that kept me gazing sadly at the depleting percentage on my Kindle. I didn’t want it to end. Everything about the story and the characters drew me in and refused to let go. I had to get up at 4AM this morning for an early shift at work, but did I sleep until my alarm? No. I woke up at 2 and read some of this book before work. I was grumpy that I had to put it down before the end, but then again…I got to read it when I got back home and stretch it out.
Ms. Trevor took a novella that she previously published and expanded it to write this story. I had never read the novella, so I had no idea that it existed until after I finished the book. If I’m honest, I’ll have to tell you that the book is listed as a HEA, and it is. But I need to know what happens next! I’m really hoping that the author grants more in the future. Does it need more? No. Do I still want more? Yes!
Jasen is a young man who is the son of a down on his luck earl. Jasen’s dad is described as fat and a drunk and a compulsive gambler. Now they are impoverished, and the only hope might be Jason going to the capital and participating in an annual event which pairs consorts up with wealthy spouses. Jason will do anything for his father, so when his father wins a bet which will enable Jasen to participate, off to Court he goes. But he is from the one land in the alliance that everyone looks down on. It is a swamp, and has no dragons. How will a bumbling yokel survive in Court with a bunch of peacocks?
No more spoilers. I dare you to pick up the book and see what you think. I was mesmerized. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fun Cinderella type fantasy story, but with dragons. Everything is better with dragons!
