Joel Leslie, a four-time Audiofile Earphones Award-winning narrator, is a UK transplant, growing up with American parents in a British commonwealth. A classically trained actor with an MFA in theatre from USC, he is often cast for his unique ability to deliver native, authentic combinations of American and British sounds. When not in the booth he spends his time chasing after two loquacious wiener dogs.
I love audiobooks. It is a completely different experience from reading, it provides the characters with nuances that you may not have imagined if you read the story. I normally listen to them while driving and doing the house chores, and they make tedious tasks enjoyable. As for favourite narrator, I like most of them, but Joel Leslie is one of my favourite ones for sure… I loved every single of his narrations that I’ve listened to so far. 😉
I love the Verania series & Tell Me It’s Real series by TJ Klune, narrated by Michael Lesley, THIRDS by Charlie Cochet, narrated by Mark Westfield. For standalones Femme by Marshall Thornton, narrated by Joel Leslie & Everyday History by Alice Archer, narrated by Daan Stone.
To make an audio book appealing the narrator should always catch the mood of the book and make it interesting for me to listen to it. I’m not that deep into audio books yet, but I really liked Amy Lane’s Bonfires by Nick J. Russo and Megan Derr’s The High King’S Golden Tongue by Michael Stellman.
I haven’t listened to many audiobooks but do find them handy when I have a long journey, big boring housework job or even out running.
I would rather the actor use tones of his/her own voice rather than trying to do a voice of the other gender, get a distinct accent wrong – these usually take me out of the story
I have only listened to a couple of audio books and that was when I was traveling. They were ok but the narrator just didn’t seem to portray the characters very well. i will give another try and maybe find a better narrator.
I love listening to audiobooks, they enhance the written word and give so much depth to the story
I love Greg Tremblay/Boudreaux, Mark Westfield and Joel
My biggest issue is probably going to be how much I already love the book. If I know I love it, hopefully the audio will be good as well. The most disappointing thing would be hearing a beloved book and hating the audio. Just offhand, I can’t think of a time that has happened. My personal favorites are the At First Sight series by TJ Klune (narrated by Michael Lesley).
I love audiobooks because I enjoy hearing the narrator’s interpretation of each character. I also like that I can listen to them while I do chores or in the car. I have long commute now and audiobooks are making that more bearable. I think my favorite narrator so far is Joel Leslie.
One reason I like listening to audiobooks is they’re good while traveling. Helps kill the time. For that matter, they are good to listen while doing other things as well.
I only pick up an audiobook if I enjoy the narrator’s voice or if I really really love the book and want to hear how it is in audio format. I try to stick to reading a book when I can since I remember the book better that way. When looking for an audio book I do like to hear a distinction between characters so if a narrator takes the time and puts in effort to differentiate the characters I’m more likely to pick it up.
I was skeptical at first, but now I LOVE audiobooks 🙂 Long plane flights and commutes give me lots of time.
