Will a bitter bite from the past spoil a sweet romance?
Tristan Love, the youngest of seven brothers, is back in his hometown. He’s left the New York food scene and an abusive relationship behind him, but he holds his love of French pastries close to his heart and is determined to put his skills to use in a bakery of his own.
Returning to his childhood home means his meddlesome brother Simon will butt into his business, but before the bakery even opens its doors, Tristan’s delectable creations have the town’s mouths watering, and Jake, a cute mechanic, asks Tristan out. It all seems worthwhile….
That is, until the bakery burns down, Jake’s criminal past comes to light, and Tristan’s nasty ex rears his head where he is decidedly not wanted.
REVIEW:
Sweet and cute and really nice. I am well aware that I am a complete sucker for this type of book. Two nice men with pasts meet by chance when Tristan returns to his home town after a disastrous relationship in New York. Tristan is a sweet baker who just wants to set up and run his bakery without interference from his ex-boyfriend or his brothers. Jake has a criminal past and was a problem child. Everyone tells Tristan to steer clear, but Tristan likes what he sees.
I really enjoyed the setting of this book. The lake and the descriptions of the town are really good. I could see the little town with its main street shops. I also really liked Tristan’s brothers. They are a bit of a pain, but they make the story really interesting. And in the end they are supportive. Jake’s sister is also a wonderful addition to the story. She provides, with Tristan’s mum, some much needed balance to the story, which is basically just men.
The ending seemed a bit easy to me. But at that point I was really enjoying the story and didn’t want it to end. I am very glad this is going to become a series because I would really like to see more of these men and this town. It was a wonderful addition to the Dreamspun Desires line.
