Premed student Tobias Benton is making amends for his past. He keeps his head down, mouth shut and colors within the lines. But when his close friend Ghost goes missing, Tobias will do whatever it takes to get answers—including using blackmail to enlist some help. The last thing he’s looking for is romance.
Private investigator Sullivan Tate isn’t above a little breaking and entering to solve a case, but when Tobias catches him in the act, it’s almost game over. Their uneasy alliance only gets more complicated when Sullivan learns that Tobias shares his interest in kink. Mixing sex and work could kill Sullivan’s career, but Tobias’s acceptance of Sullivan’s darkest urges is nearly impossible to resist.
Side by side, Tobias and Sullivan spend their days searching for the truth and their nights fulfilling their respective fantasies. But the answers they seek are far more dangerous than they realize, and soon they find themselves fighting for more than just each other.
REVIEW:
You know, this may be a first for me in regards to how I normally like my books. Normally, the romance has to be the center of everything else or I just shut down. But I feel with Hard Line, the mystery took center stage for a lot of the book and I found myself really, really enjoying that aspect. This is not to say I wasn’t sitting on the edge of my seat every single moment Tobias and Sullivan’s chemistry went through the roof, because I was and I loved all the tension Sidney built between these two characters. The way this author dragged out the chemistry while building this intense mystery was exquisite. I’m a pretty diehard fan of Sidney Bell, and book 2 in the Woodbury Boys series did not disappoint.
Tobias Benton and PI Sullivan Tate meet under dire circumstances. Sullivan is in the middle of investigating a cold case involving a kidnapped girl when he meets Tobias who is looking for his friend, Ghost.
Tobias is essentially at a crossroads in his life. Having had a falling out with his adoptive parents, a rough introduction to his birth mother and a demanding college course load the last thing Tobias needs is increasing concern over his missing friend. Needing a diversion Tobias goes to some ethical measure to partner with Sullivan on his current case and helping Tobias find Ghost.
Like I mentioned the mystery elements were damn intriguing in this story and it just added to everything making this a for sure, page turner.
I don’t want to undermine Tobias and Sullivan’s connection, however. These two were damn hot together. There was a mild kink-y sort of connection, a power play that was honestly delicious. I really enjoyed how these two worked together. Sullivan was this seeker of knowledge, this force seeking justice with Tobias seeking answers.
I really liked this story not that I’m surprised. Sidney Bell is just spectacular and an auto-buy for me.
Absolutely recommend.
