Maddox:
The reason I rarely go home is three simple words: I’m a liar.
When the pressure to marry my childhood sweetheart became too much, I told her I was gay and then fled to New York like my ass was on fire.
Now, five years later and after a drunken encounter, I find myself invited to her wedding. And I have to bring my boyfriend—the boyfriend who doesn’t exist because I’m straight.
At least, I think I am. Meeting the guy I’m bribing to be my boyfriend for the weekend makes me question everything about myself.
Damon:
When my sister asks me to pretend to be some straight guy’s boyfriend, my automatic response is to say no. It’s because of guys like him people don’t believe me when I tell them I’m gay.
But Maddox has something I need.
After an injury that cost me my baseball career, I’m trying to leave my playing days behind and focus on being the best sports agent I can be. Forty-eight hours with my sister’s best friend in exchange for a meeting with a possible client. I can do this.
I just wish he wasn’t so hot. Or that he didn’t kiss like he means it.
Wait … why is the straight guy kissing me?
REVIEW:
So I will be the first to admit that the fake boyfriend has been done over and over and over. But this does have a bit of a twist that Maddox isn’t gay. However, as expected, Maddox and Damon are attracted to each other. This all being said, I really enjoyed this book. Eden Finley has given us a fun read that is full of character development and interest.
Maddox is an interesting man. His whole life he has run away from his problems. And now some of his chickens are coming home to roost. The way Damon interacts with him at the start was great and I could really feel their chemistry and their desire not to have it. And enter a whole range of interesting characters. Stacy is Damon’s sister and Maddox’s best friend. She is funny and a little crazy and a lot sarcastic. I really loved her. Maddox’s family are really great and they help move the story along and let us see Maddox.
Damon has an interesting back story of his own. It was really engaging and helped explain his behaviour. I was really impressed with how it was weaved into the story.
Probably the only thing I really don’t like is the cover. I don’t think it fits the story at all.
Overall, I can say, that while the general premise has been done before, this story is different. It is well written (and edited), with plenty of meat to sink your teeth into. I loved the way the two men’s backstory weaves into the book so well. The secondary characters and great. And the best bit, Damon and Maddox and wonderful together. They really pop as a couple and even when they are not a couple they are fabulous to read about.
