When a man takes an unexpected turn and ends up where he isn’t supposed to be, his fate will bring him back to his own path. But when it happens to two people at the same time, their fates will interlink and their paths ultimately entwine.
Aidan Ross, artist extraordinaire meets Rick Mahoney when the man comes for an interview, except he is at the wrong one. Aidan wants him to be the inspiration for his next paintings so badly that he makes a tempting offer. But soon he realizes that he has a decision to make. Aidan can’t be certain whether it’s only the artist in him who is allured by Rick’s charming looks or if there is more than that.
When an unexpected job proposal is made, Rick has his own concerns, the main one being the fact he is in a wheelchair. Why would a renowned artist like Adonis want to paint him? But he is in dire need of a job and he finds it hard to say no to a handsome man like Aidan Ross.
Art by Adonis is a journey of two men, imperfect in their own way yet so perfect for each other.
REVIEW:
Oh man I’m having such a hard time with this review. First of all, I want to say, I do recommend this book. I know I gave it a lower rating, and believe me, I had SUCH a hard time with that in itself. The overall story concept was so good. The overall story in itself was good. There were just a few things I had issues with that made me have to go lower. The ending being the biggest issue of all. I was so let down by that ending. With everything they had gone through, and all the emotion, and to have it end like that. Yeah, not happy. The other things were little. Attention to detail in some spots. Or maybe some more explanation?
Rick and Aiden meet briefly when both show up to the wrong floors for different things they were doing. From the moment Aiden laid eyes on Rick, there was something about the man that intrigued him. Not only that, but the beauty of Rick captivated Aiden enough that he immediately wanted to paint the man. But before he could say anything, the elevator closed again and took Rick away. Thinking he would never see the man again, Aiden went about his business but couldn’t get the man out of his mind. And when another mix-up ensued, Aiden jumped at the chance to capture this man on canvas. With a past that Rick has, he isn’t sure he should get involved. But he really wants and needs the money to help in his situation. He doesn’t understand what Aiden sees in him, but he takes a chance. As Aiden paints him, they begin to get to know each other. But the past and the world of today collide, and they have to navigate a way to make what seems like an impossible relationship, possible.
First of all, I have to say what interested me in this book so much is that one of the main characters is in a wheelchair. I loved that. I loved that the characters were not perfect. I had a hard time with Aiden at the beginning though. He seemed really intrigued and enraptured by Rick but would snap at him and yell at him like a little kid. I know artists are supposed to be temperamental and stuff but it seemed a little assinine to me. Kinda like the spoiled rich kid. Which in a lot of ways he was. The character that I adore though, hands down, was Rick. Despite all he had been through, he kept trying to get up and keep going. And most often did. But damn, even in a walking person’s life, sometimes life gets too damn much. Can you imagine what life is like disabled like that? I can’t and I have my own disabilities. But life has beat him down. He doesn’t have much of a self esteem but his heart is larger than life. He wants someone to see him and not his disability. Someone to love him and help him and not make him feel like a burden, like so many others have done. Aiden, he thought, was that person. But like with anything in life, sometimes things come along and kick you in the teeth. You just have to decide if life wins or do you try one more time to get back up and go again. That’s what Rick had to decide.
I know I gave this a lower rating but I still hope you will try it. It was a sweet, and at the same time, heartbreaking story. Just needs more at the end for sure. Happy reading!
