BLURB:
Scott O’Hara and Edgar Lopez have been partners in the homicide unit of Haydon Cliff’s Police Department for the last couple of years. Edgar is openly gay and a bit of a player. Though Scott is also gay he keeps it to himself. Even from Edgar.
Until one night, when a slightly drunk Scott initiates sex between them.
Scott doesn’t expect the sex to be repeated. He doesn’t do one-night stands or fuck-buddies. But Edgar has other ideas and Scott can’t seem to resist his sexy partner.
While they try to solve the mystery of who is murdering Haydon Cliff’s homeless, they also try to solve the mystery of whether Edgar’s heart can really be unobtainable.
REVIEW:
Unobtainable by Shawn Lane is a novella about two police officers who have been partners for a while when they fall into bed together. Scott doesn’t believe that Edgar can be committed to just one man and Edgar didn’t know that Scott was gay until Scott kissed him. While this is happening the two men are trying to solve the murder of homeless people in town.
Being so short this story has very little development. It’s a really good storyline, but it just doesn’t really go anywhere. I kept expecting more. Then when it comes to the homeless murders, there is no other characters until one pops up and then as you would expect, they end up being the killer.
The end was emotionally flat. I really didn’t feel anything about the murders. Not sad, not angry, not any emotion at all. And then the story was over.
Overall, this was an easy read. But don’t expect much conflict, development and angst. Told in first person, the story moves pretty quickly.
