At 23, Poe Montgomery is going nowhere. He still lives in his father’s basement and spends most of his time tagging with his friends. When an arrest lands him in debt, Poe accepts the front desk job at Permanent Ink, the tattoo shop owned by his father’s best friend, Jericho McAslan. Jericho is nearly twice Poe’s age, but with his ink and prematurely graying hair, he quickly takes the starring role in Poe’s hottest fantasies.
Jericho is known for his ability to transform poorly designed tattoos into works of art, but he was once as aimless and misdirected as Poe. Wanting to pay it forward the way someone once did for him, Jericho makes Poe his apprentice and is determined to keep things strictly professional. Easier said than done when Poe makes his interest – and his daddy kink – abundantly clear.
Jericho can’t resist Poe or their intense chemistry for long. But between the age gap, tension with Poe’s father, and Poe’s best friend calling him a sellout, they’ll need to ensure they’re both on the same page before they can rewrite their rocky start into something permanent.
REVIEW:
Young Poe is a young man…barely into his 20’s and his life isn’t going anywhere. He’s working a dead-end job and living in his father’s basement. Poe has one thing that motivates him and that’s art. His perferred medium is tagging buildings. Poe is just so disaffected youth, who doesn’t see that what he does has consequences and that you can make your life better if you put in the effort. Poe isn’t a bad guy…he’s just lacks motivation and focus. I didn’t really care for Poe most of the story…I guess it’s because I’m grown and I hate to see this pouty, entitled kid think that he’s the only one who has issues.
Jericho is a man who has had a tough go and yet, he was given the chance to change his life and he does. He now owns his own tattoo parlor and he is a good man. When he hears about his friend, Landon’s son…having no focus and not seeing that he could change his ways…he offers to have Poe work for him. I like that this man, Jericho wants to pay it forward. That he wants to help someone like he was helped in the past. I really enjoy reading books that has people really wanting to help.
I have to say that I really liked how Landon took Jericho and Poe’s relationship. I really appreciate the fact that he was real about it…his son and his best friend…yeah…that would take a bit of time. I like that he was honest about how he felt and he reacted just perfectly…IMHO. Blue…yeah…he was such a brat and I really didn’t like anything about him. I felt that he was entitled and whiny and pouty…I get that life isn’t perfect and yet…you can change it if you want to…the way he reacted to Poe’s evolving life…yeah…petty much? But he was true to his character.
I have to say that it was a nice, slow burn to this story and the bit of Daddy Kink…was tastefully done. The sexy times didn’t overwhelm the story and that was nice to see.
The narration of this story was very well done. I have to say that Kirt Graves did a phenomenal job portraying Poe as the apathetic youth of today. I have to say that he did such a great job that I forgot what was going on around me and just fell into the story.
Overall, this story was very well done and the narration was top-notched.
