BLURB:
Edward Grey is a medical student by day, necromancer by night. He lives alone with the first zombie he ever raised, his childhood cat, Boo. Edward’s life is simple: studying medicine, training his necromantic powers with his mentor, Mariel, and having weekly dinners with his parents. When he finds a very attractive corpse in a park and brings it home to reanimate, he creates a sassy, free-willed zombie who believes Edward is the one who murdered him.
With no memory of his former life, Edward names the zombie Kit and tries to win his trust. Kit slowly adjusts to his new un-life with Edward’s help, though he’s still suspicious of Edward’s role in his death and is convinced that Edward is hiding his former identity. Edward is very attracted to Kit, but understands why Kit doesn’t trust him. As they become closer to one another, Kit turns to Edward for comfort and love. The fragile trust they’ve built together will be tested when Kit unexpectedly regains his memory and seeks revenge on his murderers.
REVIEW:
Wow. You know, if anyone knows me, they know my favorite things are books. I love fiction, non fiction, whatever. There isn’t much I don’t read. There are a few things out there that I won’t touch, but very few. And that’s why I love to be able to write reviews for you guys because I get to experience new authors and new books. Books I may have never taken a second glance at, but now I look and see and I can say I’m very rarely disappointed. But sometimes, even with a passion for reading, you can get into a book funk. Kinda like you are reading the same stuff over and over and you just need something blatantly different. And I got that today. I have to say, I was intrigued first and foremost, by the cover. I mean come on, zombies and rubber duckies???? Who would have thought those two would be together. Then of course I read the blurb and really wanted to read this book. I am so glad I got that chance. It was funny, heartbreaking, tear-jerking, sassy, sexy, and so much more. And for a zombie book, very sarcastic, which had me cracking up bad. I could not put it down. I’m asking you guys to give this book a chance. I don’t think you will be disappointed. I for sure wasn’t.
Edward was leading a solitary boring life. For the most part. He is a medical student. He has good parents who love and accept he’s gay. But it’s his other gift that kinda gave them pause at first. Edward is a necromancer. Yep. He can raise the dead. His palms get itchy and he has to go revive someone. This particular night his palms itched, he comes across a murder scene. Still fresh too. At first he thinks it’s a young woman, but as he gets closer, it’s a beautiful young man. Edward tries to do all he can to see if he can revive him for real, but there is no hope. He’s been to badly beaten. Then all Edward thinks is ‘mine’. He drags him back to his lab and precedes to bring him back to life. He hides anything of his old life and ‘heals’ him. But from the start this zombie is different. The zombie’s first reaction was to punch Edward. Definitely not normal. And the more he awakens, the more Edward realizes he’s more like a live man. He thinks on his own, can take care of himself, cook, clean, anything a normal person can do. Except be actually alive. Well and eat certain things. Edward names him Kit. Things progress between the two of them to the point they become boyfriends. (And yes they even have sex). Until one fateful night, when they decide to go dancing, Kit sees one of his attackers and remembers everything. Edward has to stop him from seeking revenge and bring back his sweet but snarky boyfriend. But how does he stop him and will it be too late?
I had to laugh so hard when Edward revived Kit and the first thing Kit does is punch the hell out of Edward. I was rolling. That was Edward’s first clue that something with this zombie was going to be quite different. But could you imagine? Knowing death entered your body, accepting it, only to open your eyes again and know everything is different? That you are somehow alive but not? Yeah I would be punching somebody too lol. And i don’t know who to feel more sorry for in this book. I mean I feel for Kit. He had a life and a family, only to die a horrible death. And he remembers nothing of it no matter how hard he tries. And Edward is so lonely. All he has is his zombie cat. And trust me, it ain’t pretty. Edward is so shy and awkward. He knows someone like Kit is way out of his league. And even as a zombie, he is. Kit is preppy, outgoing, athletic, at ease with himself. All the things Edward is not. But Edward would do anything he can to make him happy. And then there are times I want to smack Kit lol. He is so damn preppy to the point of being a snob. Not that it’s wrong to take pride in your appearance or anything, but sometimes I think he goes overboard. And often times I wonder if he does it to get back at Edward for bringing him back to life. There are times when Kit is so miserable. And he wishes he would have been left dead and maybe at peace. And then your heart breaks for both of them for it. Edward wants to make Kit happy but now that he’s ‘alive’, Edward doesn’t think he could ever take that back away from Kit. And it doesn’t help that Kit knows Edward is hiding something from his past about him. In order for these two to be happy, they have to learn to trust each other. And Kit once he remembers, has to decide, does he really want to go back to the life he’s missed or stay with the new life he’s made? I couldn’t imagine having that kind of decision. But you want them happy for sure.
Man I loved this book. I hope I conveyed it well enough that you will go look it up. I promise it is a different read and very good.

You got me with your first paragraph. I was considering this book a while ago, but cast the idea away. I’m not a huge zombie fan *shivers*. But yeah, I wouldn’t mind something different once in a while and I guess your review made me reconsider… I’ll put the book on my to-read-list.
Thanks for the review.
Oh I’m so happy!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!
