BLURB:
I never thought I’d have a sexual awakening at 34, but, well…here I am: River Burke, novice deviant and master class neurotic mess. With my laundry list of control issues, submission doesn’t exactly come naturally, but I figure if I can find the right person—someone big, buff, and crazy intimidating—maybe I can learn to let go.
And then in walks Ellison Fitch.
He’s not at all what I thought I was looking for, but with his piercing eyes, his too-personal questions, and his brilliant mind, he’s under my skin from the moment we meet. He makes me squirm in all the best ways with nothing but a look and a word, and I can see he loves that as much as I do. I thought I wanted someone to push me around, but it turns out I want someone to take me apart.
While Ellison systematically dismantles every one of my barriers, I can’t help but wonder if he’ll ever drop his for me. Does he even want to let me in, or am I too lost, too broken to fill his needs the way he fills mine? I have to know, because now that I’ve had a taste of submission at his hand, I can’t stop thinking about how good it felt to be on my knees for him.
Let’s be honest here: I’m going to let this man break me into pieces. I only hope he’ll be there to put me back together again.
Truth by His Hand is a 120,000 word contemporary gay romance with strong BDSM themes and many explicit scenes. It’s a standalone novel with a guaranteed happy ending.
REVIEW:
This book actually caught my attention via it’s title and then the blurb drew me in and I have to say that I’m actually pretty happy that I got the opportunity to listen to this story.
River is on a BDSM discovery as you’ve read in the blurb, but that doesn’t tell you the whole story. River…our neurotic MC whose POV is the one thru this book…is actually quite endearing in the way that he knows that he’s a neuortic mess and yet, that doesn’t stop him from trying to find his way. I like that as River is working up the courage to finally put himself out there and learn more about this lifestyle…he’s gaining some strength in himself. I like that as the story goes along…River becomes more confident in what he wants as well as putting his heart out there with Ellison. I like that what River thought he wanted in a Dom…the big, burly type of guy and what he gets…is so much more what he needed.
Ellison…I have to say that I really enjoyed his character. I loved that this man…who isn’t this big, burly guy could take River apart and put him back together again. I loved the force of his personality and combined with his intensity…well…he had me hooked. I know that for some, he was hard to really get to know and I felt that as well…but it didn’t bother me the way it did other people. I liked that Ellison was very methodical in the way he went about things. I liked that even with his reserved and aloof nature….he still drew you in to him.
I have to say that I really liked the secondary characters…Mariah and Tea. Gosh, they were there for River in all his neurotic ways and yet, they never let him get away with him doing or saying stupid things. They listened to him and let him work out his issues, however, they told him what he needed to hear. I enjoy that about people in RL, so it made this story for me…so much more richer.
I have to say that I truly liked that the author took the time to research the BDSM community and I really liked that even though BDSM played a huge part…it really wasn’t the main focus of the story. I feel that for me one of the main focuses was River and his growth throughout the story. Another was River and Ellison’s relationship. Not just the BDSM part, but of their romantic relationship as well.
This book had me very enthralled from the very beginning and it didn’t feel like 12hrs had passed when all was said and done.
Michael Fell as the narrationer of this story was flawless. I truly enjoyed listening to his interpretation of the story and found that after 12 hrs on a Sunday…I didn’t want it to be over. I loved Michael’s voice and the way that he protrayed each character. I felt as if I flowed into the story listening to Michael’s narration. I’m hoping to listen to more of his books in the near future.
