Welcome Victoria 🙂
Daniel hadn’t realized he so desperately wanted to kiss Josh until his lips were suddenly fastened on Josh’s and swallowing whatever else he was gonna say. Josh seemed to freeze under him, but just as Daniel was going to pull away and stammer his best apology, the body in his arms simply melted. Daniel’s left arm went around Josh’s back and he laid back on the sand bringing Josh with him tucked into his side. Then he slowed everything. His kisses were light. No pressure. A gentle exploration of soft lips, tongue and teeth. One kiss simply became another and another until his other hand cupped the side of Joshua’s cheek, not to hold him still but to stop himself floating away. He broke away and nuzzled Joshua’s jaw until with a groan Joshua tilted his head to the side to allow Daniel better access. Daniel breathed tiny kisses along his jaw line, working steadily lower, licking and sucking the baby soft skin behind Joshua’s ear and down his neck. “Oh,” Joshua gasped out when Daniel’s hand worked his way under his T-shirt and slid up his chest.
Daniel desperately wanted to take this inside but he didn’t want to do anything that would get the same reaction from Joshua as last time. So the kisses continued; Daniel’s hand gently explored the smooth skin on Josh’s chest. He fingered the soft nipples until they were rock hard. He swallowed every sound, every moan, every whimper, until Joshua was writhing under him and clawing at Daniel’s shirt, but he still didn’t pick the pace up. Slow and steady seemed to be having a better effect than pinning Joshua down and tearing his clothes off.
Not that he wasn’t seriously considering it.
Joshua gasped and Daniel went back to focus on his lips. He very gently bit on the lower one and felt the answering shudder. He pulled Joshua onto his side and let his fingers trail up and down his back, slowing at his waist band and then dipping his fingers below it.
“D-Daniel,” Josh broke off, stammering.
“What, sweetheart?” The endearment seemed to come naturally.
Josh cupped his face. The blown brown eyes stared into his. “Take me to bed.” There was a wealth of meaning in four small words. Daniel wanted to swallow but he couldn’t.
“You sure?”
“Yes, but I don’t know why you’d be even interested.”
The quiet murmur said into his neck almost brought Daniel out of his thoughts. “What?” he pushed a knuckle under Josh’s chin but Josh resisted looking up. Daniel thought carefully. “To be honest, I was just thinking the same thing.” He felt Joshua freeze and nearly cursed, realizing his words could easily be taken two ways. Way to go, idiot. “Before you came I was sitting here wondering what an incredibly sexy twenty-two-year-old was doing with a washed up forty-two-year-old.” Joshua looked up immediately and opened his mouth. Daniel forestalled his objection. “And I was reminded of something my gran used to say.”
Joshua closed his mouth, curiosity apparent.
“I think she knew I was gay.” Daniel smiled. “Possibly even before I did.”
“What do you mean?” Joshua said.
“I remember going to visit and she was watching a news program on HIV. It was in the early eighties when most people didn’t even know what it was. The reporter was obviously homophobic and blaming gays for just about everything that was wrong with the world. Gran snorted in disgust and I asked her what gay was. I was maybe seven or so.” Daniel’s throat grew a little tight. “She said gay was just another word for love.” She’d said more. That some other people didn’t understand love in all its forms and it had completely confused him.
“She looked at me carefully and told me to never ever let anyone else tell me who I can or can’t love because it should always be about the person and not who or what they were.”
Joshua smiled. “She sounds like a very wise woman.”
Rainbow Key – an idyllic island retreat off the west coast of Florida. Think wedding destination, white sandy beaches, lurve… except at the moment Joshua is struggling to pay the electricity bill, they’ve no paying customers, and even if they did they can’t afford the repairs from the devastating hurricane that struck three years ago – and to top it off they have to take in Daniel, a grumpy businessman who has been ordered by his doctor to take some time off before he has a heart attack from too much stress.
Funnily enough, Daniel owns a very expensive hotel chain that has been trying to buy the island for the past two years. Not that Joshua knows that yet, and boy are sparks gonna fly when he thinks he’s been set up.
Of course, sparks of a different kind are also soon flying between them.
Then there’s Matt who just got let out of prison, Charlie who ran away from home, and Ben, a famous model until a devastating house fire destroyed his face.
Welcome to Rainbow Key – held together by love, family, and sticky tape.
