“When our lips touched, I felt like the city exploded around us. I saw flashing lights with my mind’s eye. I felt oceans of pleasure and pain wash over me in never-ending tides. I snaked my arm up his back and ran my fingertips up his nape, loving the way he shivered as I grabbed the back of his head and angled it to deepen the kiss. It was a kiss I never wanted to end—and I did my best to convey that message. I enjoyed his taste and warmth for as long as he allowed me, until my lungs burned from the shallow breathing. I would have gone on. I would have given up breathing altogether if it meant I could keep my mouth on his.
He pulled back, breathing raggedly, and leaned his forehead against my cheek. “What are we doing?”
I played with the small hairs on his nape. “Whatever you’ll allow us to. I’m not sure how I’ll manage to convince you about it, but I’m here to stay if you’ll let me. I still love you. I never stopped.”
He shivered and hugged me, his slim body fitting perfectly against mine—just as I’d remembered. I would have loved to stay like this with him all night long, but unfortunately I couldn’t.
I pulled back and pecked his lips again. “As much as I love being with you like this, I have to go to work.”
“Yeah, I figured so.”
“I’d love to see you again tomorrow, though. Is it okay to stop by the café for a late breakfast?”
“Are we really doing this?” he asked, shaking his head.
“Only if you’ll let me. We’ll take it as slow as you feel comfortable. I’m willing to do whatever it takes in order to prove to you that I mean what I’m saying.”
“What if I won’t be able to trust you again?”
“Then I’ll wish you the best and not bother you again. You just have to say the words.”
Truth be told, I wouldn’t disappear even if he asked me to. Or rather, I wouldn’t go away, though he wouldn’t see me anymore if he so chose. But I was determined to keep him safe from a distance, if that was what it took. My angel was in danger for some reason. I was going to find out why and fix it. If he decided to cut me loose, that would be my parting gift for him.
“I’m probably a complete moron for even considering this,” he muttered, shaking his head. “But I still have feelings for you. It is what it is. We’ll take it one step at a time and see where this goes.”
“Thank you,” I said, and took his hand in mine. “Oh, by the way, can I have your new phone number?”
He grinned and got up from the bench. “I’ll think about it.”
“Okay. See you tomorrow, then.”
“See you,” he said and left.”

Congrats, Liv, and thanks for the excerpt. Sounds like an interesting take on dreamcatchers. For me, I like black panthers (timely, huh?), but I even more partial to a flyer, like hawk or falcon.
