Hello All!
I thought it would be good to wave goodbye to 2017 and say hello to 2018 (a little late) regarding my writing.
2017 was a bad year in general. My beloved mother died on January 19 and not-my-president was inaugurated the next day. These twin blows affected my writing output considerably. I’d had big plans to write and publish two more Stories from the Shore novellas, a Virginia novella for DSP States of Love, and a holiday short. Oh, and start a writers group for LGBTQ youth and do a writers retreat.
What I did: Wrote and published In Over Our Heads, book two of the Shores Series. Wrote A Holiday Crush for the DSP holiday anthology. That’s it for the published writing. I also used NaNoWriMo to get 50K written on Miles’s story for book three of the Shores Series. I didn’t finish it and I’m still not finished with a workable first draft. I gave up on the Virginia novella, the writers group, and the retreat in 2017. But I did go to GRL, DSP Authors Conference, and Read with Pride (formerly GRNW). And I did do a reading of New Adult novels for our local Barnes & Noble, put on by fellow writer Ben Brock.
Two other accomplishments in 2017: Sex, Love, and Videogames won first place for contemporary novels in the 2017 EPIC Awards. And All the Way to Shore was a Runner-Up in the Rainbow Awards for best bisexual romance.
Hmm. You know, when I write it all down, it appears that quite a lot happened in 2017 — just not everything I planned on.
2018: A new start! Yay! Isn’t that what romance novels are all about? Dreamspinner put my Wild and Precious novellas into a paperback bundle, The Wild and Precious Collection. And All the Way to Shore is being made into an audiobook – the narrator I picked was hilarious in his audition and I can’t wait to hear what he does with the whole story. And I got the writers retreat scheduled – seven writers plus my hubby the cook are going to Yachats on the Oregon coast this weekend. Can’t wait! I’ll share pictures next time. The last bit of exciting 2018 news is that a GSA group from Pierce College in Washington state invited me to read from my books for their meeting in March. I’m bringing my friend and fellow author Charli Coty (it’s a 4 1/2 hour drive from where I live) and I’m looking forward to being with queer college students and their allies.
I also registered as a Featured Author for Gay Rom Lit 2018. It’s in Virginia this year, which is my home state, and where many of my books are set. Maybe I’ll even get that Virginia States of Love story written by then!
Thanks for reading. I’ll come back next month with news from the writers retreat and the Pierce College GSA event. Take care!
