A year ago Corey Abbott’s life entered the realm of the bizarre when he discovered the things that go bump in the night are real. But working for the local vampire council didn’t prepare him for were-deer shifters.
Nine months ago Dare Buckley’s herd abandoned him. Now, he’s slowly going mad from Lyme disease…something that doesn’t hurt normal deer, but for were-deer is fatal.
On one snowy, sleet-filled night, the two collided…literally.
This Christmas two men find love in the most unexpected place…a lonely, desolate highway.
REVIEW:
This was a really sweet and smoking hot book. It was also a reminder that you’re not always alone. Especially for the holidays. Sometimes in life you get to meet that special someone, and you’re definitely not alone.
Corey is still distracted over the death of his best friend and sometimes lover. He knows he should be more careful on a snowy slick drive but he can’t help thinking about him. And then he hits something with his truck. And it’s huge. He gets out of his truck to load the deer (hoping he won’t get in trouble, but wanting to help poor families with meat), loads him and drives home. When he goes to get in the back of the truck to cut the deer up, he gets the shock of his life to see a huge naked man. And he’s alive. He knows there are things in this world that people don’t know about, and after this past year and being around vampires, he should know better. But damn he wasn’t expecting this. He gets him into the house to warm him up and help him heal if he can. But Dare is so out of whack. He thinks he’s losing his mind. He’s thinking it’s probably Lyme disease. Yet all he knows when he wakes up, is the smell of the man tending to him and how all he can think is “mine”. Not thinking straight he quickly mounts Corey and marks him. They are mated. But Dare doesn’t want to bring his curse on Corey and things become complicated. They have to work through all their pasts and all that is happening between them to get to the truth and begin to be the mates they are.
Man the things these poor guys have been through. Corey was thrown into the paranormal world, thanks to his dead best friend and sometimes lover. He’s still grieving to a point. But since his ex has died, Corey has been so lonely. And with it being the holidays, it’s worse. He can’t visit his family this year, which is leaving another hole in his heart. He just wants to move on. To love someone and have someone love him. But he can’t get Damien and this past year out of his head. Dare lost everything himself. His herd is gone and all ties to them have been cut. His only family was his brother and ties with him are long gone too. He can’t even hope to find love because he thinks he’s diseased. So when he steps into that road he doesn’t really know where he is. Both are distracted and upset when Corey hits him with his truck. Neither expected, when Corey found Dare changed back into himself, to feel the quick and instant pull they did to each other. In his delirious state he couldn’t think past making Corey his. To mate him, mark him, scent him and anything else he could do to make Corey his. Corey being so turned on, was in no frame of mind to object lol. But even with the fears they had, the doubts, the questions, in the end they knew they found in each other something they had with no other. And maybe finally they wouldn’t feel so unloved and alone.
This is a book that I really enjoyed. A reminder that no matter our difference, everyone wants and needs to be loved. And hopefully out there, there is someone waiting for us.
