Sometimes the strongest flames take the longest to ignite.
Firefighter Dean’s life revolves around his very ill son, Sammy. Caring for Sammy and working to make ends meet leave Dean time for little else, and romance isn’t something he can even consider – no matter how much he longs for someone special to join their family. Because money is tight, Dean couldn’t be more grateful to the photographer who does Sammy’s session free of charge.
After growing up in the foster care system, Marco knows how to rely on himself, and his hard work is about to pay off – he’s poised on the cusp of fame and success he could only have imagined as a lonely child. When Dean brings Sammy into Marco’s studio, Marco can see they’re struggling, and both the boy and his father stir Marco’s heart. The slow burn between the two men isn’t something either expected, but neither wants to lose the possibility of a loving future. With Dean’s dangerous and possibly life-threatening career and Marco’s demanding one, can romance and forever find a place to fit?
REVIEW:
In Smoldering Flame, we learn about Firefighter Dean, his son Sammy and photographer Marco.
Dean’s son Sammy is 5 years old, fighting cancer and it’s not looking very positive. Dean will do anything to make Sammy happy and what makes Sammy happy is meeting and possibly playing with a stuffed toy Dalmatian that he’s seen in photos on the hospital wall! Dean tracks down the photographer to make what could very well be Sammy’s last wish happen.
Marco doesn’t take walk-in’s anymore but when he sees Sammy he can’t resist. When Sammy meet’s ‘Sparky’ Marco can’t stop himself from taking some photos of the heart melting scene in front of him! What Dean has no way of knowing right then is that when Marco was a child he too fought cancer. Nothing happens that first meeting but months later they meet again when it looks like Sammy has finally beaten the cancer and his energy is back in a big way!
Although Marco never forgot how good-looking Dean was from their first meeting he never attempted to pursue anything but now that Sammy is better he sees nothing wrong with going after what he wants, Dean! Dean hasn’t had a great deal of relationships with men as they see Sammy and run the other way. Marco is different, he’s just as enamoured with Sammy as he is with Dean so Dean decides to take a chance and let Marco into their lives.
The relationship isn’t smooth sailing, you have Dean’s father Ted a homophobic, retired Army officer who doesn’t believe Dean should be or even is gay. Ted firmly believes because Dean slept with a rather large number of women when he was younger he should have no problem’s finding a woman to marry so Sammy can have a mother. This attitude has created a lot of tension between Dean and his father for a lot of years and when Marco arrived on the scene things only got worse because even Ted can see that Dean is in love with Marco! I have no hesitation in recommending this book to you to read because there is so much love in this story it’s a joy to read so grab your copy, settle in and fall in love with this little family!!
