After years of making minimum wage, college dropout Josh Clemmons may have found his salvation. Murmur Inc., a local adult entertainment company, is hosting auditions for new performers, and Josh has been invited to try out. If he can make it as a porn star, he can kiss his money troubles goodbye.
Mike Harwood is a loud-and-proud professional adult entertainer. In the past three years, he’s starred in dozens of films, and he’s very good at what he does. But as focused as he’s been on work, he’s neglected everything else, including his love life. He’s so used to faking attraction, he can no longer tell when something real is staring him in the face.
Josh gets the job, but when porn fails to live up to the fantasy, he quits to do cam work instead. But he can’t stop thinking about the one scene he filmed, and the captivating man he filmed it with. Their chemistry is undeniable, but Mike knows better than to mix business with pleasure. Then again, with true love on the line, this unorthodox office romance may need a second take.
REVIEW:
This was actually a pretty good book. I’m a little hesitant when it comes to books about porn or the industry. Not that it’s bad or anything but because it can become…cheesy? Maybe that’s the right word. But this was good. And I’ve never read this author before either so I actually want to read more of her stuff. Now if you notice, this is the 3rd book in this series. It can be read as a standalone and you won’t miss anything. I’ve not read the first two and wasn’t lost or confused at all.
Josh is so tired of being so broke. He can barely pay the bills and he’s only renting out a room as it is. In a house that’s falling apart at the seams. An ex employee he had worked with had left the job to join the porn industry full time and seeing how much money they could make, thought he might like to do that too. He just has to have a spot open in the one he wants to work for. When a spot opens, he fills out an application and goes through the roof with excitement when he is replied to for an audition. But it’s nothing what he thought it was. The first entertainer he encounters comes of cocky and asinine but makes Josh feel thinks he’s not really felt before. The lady running things is never happy with anything he does and the first major shoot he does, he was left hanging. The cocky, asinine costar, Mike, he got to work with made him feel he was special during the shoot only to treat him like crap after. He knows this job isn’t for him, but he doesn’t want to pass up money he may make. And his feelings for Mike, even though Mike can be a dick, are becoming more intense. He feels the chemistry there but doesn’t know what to do. After a bad health announcement, he talks to the boss of Murmur Inc and she gives him the option of Cam work, which he wants and immediately takes to. Now if he can just figure out how to fix things with Mike and see if it goes anywhere.
It’s kinda funny how people always assume the life of a porn star is so easy and money filled. They have no idea what it really entails to make a short or even longer film that everyone enjoys. The hours upon hours of being posed certain ways while trying to maintain a hard-on is definitely not easy. And don’t forget most have to take pills just to keep it up and going. The hours of going to a gym to make sure your body looks right, the eating right or not eating at all before a shoot to make sure your cleaned out lol. It’s not at all glamorous. As Josh found out quick. But I understand where he was coming from. When you’ve constantly had to go through poverty, a chance to make good money is appealing. And anyone can have sex right? Josh was in for a rude awakening. But I feel for him. He just wants to make it in this world. He gave up on finishing school after getting a lot done and now he’s thinking he should go back. But without the money, he can’t. He can barely afford to feed himself much less anything else. Now he has feelings for someone in the industry, when warned not to. But the chemistry is there. But man Mike is a jerk. He blows hot and cold so much. I feel for Mike too. Mike has been at this job for a while and he’s pretty much seen it all. It’s left him cynical and rude to most people. He’s tired, he burned out and trying to figure out what to do with his life. He’s still young. He needs to get into something before his time is up. But what? And this this innocent, bratty young man walks into his job and his life and smacked him between the eyes. And he fights with everything he is. But Josh makes him feel something he’s not felt maybe ever. And for the first time in a long time, he feels alive. But he knows this industry and relationships don’t mix. But darn it all if his heart is letting it go. So now they have to figure out if they can make it work and if it will be worth it.
I tell you, one thing I really like about this book is that it didn’t pull punches with certain things. When you are in a business like that, the health risks are astronomical. You have to be oh so careful. Testing all the time, condoms, etc. And even that doesn’t make it safe. Being with that many partners can leave its damages. And I like that this book addresses that. It doesn’t take up the whole book, so don’t worry, but it does make a point of it and I think it’s great the author didn’t leave that out. A really good book. I recommend for sure.
