Matthew Elliot is one of LA’s best detectives. He’s been labeled the golden boy of the Fab Four: a team of four detectives who’ve closed down drug-rings all over the city. He’s smart, tough and exceptionally good at his job. He’s also a closeted gay man.
Enter Kira Takeo Franco, the new boxing coach at the gym. Matthew can’t deny his immediate attraction to the man his fellow cops know as Frankie. But in allowing himself to fall in love with a man known to his colleagues, Matthew risks outing them both.
Matt and Kira work to keep their relationship and private lives hidden from Matt’s very public life, fearing it would be detrimental to their careers. But it’s not the other cops who Matthew should be worried about finding out his deepest, darkest secret…. It’s the bad guys.
Third edition – has new cover and has been re-edited, though no new content has been added.
STORY REVIEW:
This is a revist for me. I read this a while ago and remembered loving it, so I quickly snapped up the audiobook for review.
Once again, I easily felt the instant attraction between the MCs. The light, flirty tone was so evident and made me want to see how these men would interact going forward. And I never questioned the relationship development. It felt like a natural progression from strangers, to sexual partners, to friends, to boyfriends, to more. Even though a lot of time passed off page, I was still given everything I needed to understand these men and their growing feelings. I easily connected with them as people and so I was completely invested in their relationship outcome. I needed to remember how it would all work out!
I connected with Matt’s character from the start. I felt his worry of being outed and his stress at having to navigate so carefully to stay hidden. And when the big ANGST happened, I felt a new kind of fear. I felt like I was there with him going through this joint to the “Point of No Return.”
I loved Frankie’s character. He was my favorite because he was such a great man and he brought out the best in those around him. His love for Matt was so clear and easy to understand. He really was Matt’s balance in life and I loved him so much more for it. And his actions during and after the big ANGST just made me love him all the harder for what he went through and would continue to go through.
Even though I have read this one before, I devoured this audiobook and hated that I had to pause halfway to go to work! I was so swept up in needing to remember how things worked out that my hour long drive felt too short! This story gave me everything I needed to be utterly satisfied. It had humor, action, tension, fear, but through all of that it had love. It had a love that convinced me it will last a lifetime.
I highly recommend this audiobook. The audio is a great addition to this wonderful story.
NARRATION REVIEW:
Sean Crisden nailed this narration for me. He brought these men to life and the emotions were so vivid I felt them with the characters. I could feel Kira’s smirks and his smiles and I couldn’t help smiling right along with him. I could feel Matt’s anxiety and fear. I could feel Kira’s heart broken pleas for Matt to make him feel again and I cried right along with him. I just really loved this story and the narration added an extra layer that made this one just perfect for me.
