Caleb White has been a lot of places and made a lot of decisions he isn’t proud of. He’s ready to settle down and figure out who he really is. Where better to do that than Last Chance, the home he was ripped away from at sixteen? A fresh start is in order, but he has no idea how to do that when he’s not even sure what he wants in the first place.
Ryan Daily is a pro at hiding his insecurities. He’s never fit in and has spent most of his life knowing there’s something missing. Just when he thought he’d found it, his whole world fell apart and he lost everything.
Then comes a sleepless night in a twenty-four-hour café, where Caleb and Ryan forge a connection full of laughs, junk food, and whispered secrets. In the middle of their budding friendship, desire blooms unexpectedly. Ryan has kept his heart protected after having it shattered, and Caleb—no stranger to attraction—finds that what he has with Ryan is on a whole new level from anything he’s experienced before. In a world of black and white, they bring each other color.
But life is never simple. When the past comes knocking, Ryan and Caleb will have to reach through the darkness to find the light they see in each other…or risk slipping into the shadows for good.
REVIEW:
2 Truths and a lie (this will make more sense once you read the book):
I liked this story.
I didn’t love this story.
This was the best story I’ve read by Riley Hart.
First things first, I totally adored the way Riley Hart had these 2 come together. I think this is my first story involving a demi character and the way it played out was perfect and believable. I think when you have a character that’s never been with someone of the same sex it’s important to make the attraction, chemistry, and passion believable…and this author did just that. One thing that Riley Hart has done so well in the past is made me fall in love with her characters but for some reason I wasn’t completely feeling Ryan or Caleb. I liked them together. I liked how their relationship developed but I didn’t find them endearing to me as a reader and it left me a bit detached.
Ryan Daily loves his simple life in Last Chance. A born mechanic nothing really brings him peace like fixing up cars does. He’s never really focused on love, romance or sex. The only time it did was with his ex-wife and that died when tragedy struck. He’s not prepared to have feelings like lust and passion ignite when Last Chance native Caleb White returns.
Circumstances arise that forces Ryan and Caleb to share a home. Finding they have a ton in common their friendship is easy and needed.
Unexpected attraction leads to Caleb and Ryan experimenting with each other. Caleb knows he’s Ryan’s only male lover and it leaves him insecure. While Ryan is battling his own internal demons…together, however, they are pretty mush perfect and incredibly sweet.
Overall, it was a great addition to a series I’ve enjoyed thus far. Interested to see what’s in store for Last Chance next?
Recommend.
