Jamie “Roxy” Albright has one great love in his life and room for no other. He lives and breathes makeup. Men are nothing more than temporary distractions and romance… well, that isn’t worth his time. With a burgeoning career as a YouTube makeup artist opening doors to never before dreamed of opportunities, time isn’t something Jamie has and distractions aren’t something he can afford.
Instagram model and shirtless wonder Tyler Jackson is quickly falling for elusive Jamie. How it went from a seemingly innocent message to feelings, he’ll never know. Their chemistry is instant and fiery hot, and Tyler’s never been that good at self control. The challenges are endless, though. There’s Jamie’s walls to break through and a country worth of space between them. And just when things are starting to look up, life throws a wrench in the works.
REVIEW:
My daughter is obsessed with these YouTube celebrities who somehow have ridiculous numbers of followers just hanging out to watch them do…whatever it is they do. Occasionally two such “celebrities” will hook up and date, and put out a couple of joint episodes, and I’m always fascinated by the thought of how they got together, did they watch each others shows? And what will happen when they break up? How will the fans react? So when I read the blurb for this book, it was kind of a no brainer for me. Of course I was going to read it!
I absolutely adored these characters. Jamie is one of those gorgeous male makeup bloggers that are taking the cosmetics world by storm at the moment. Sometimes he appears in pretty dresses and sometimes he appears in casual flannel, but his face is always flawless before anyone is allowed to see him. He has a reputation as a love-‘em and leave-‘em, never have sex with the same man twice type of guy. His heart is protected by some impenetrable shields. However, beneath the fluro hair, the ever changing eye colours, and the perfect makeup is a vulnerable, freckle faced young man who’s scared to risk his heart. I think I loved Jamie so much because he’s the kind of celebrity you’d see on Facebook or YouTube and you’d probably judge him as a bit of a bitch. The only personal details about himself he tends to share are the details of his sexual exploits, because to him sex isn’t anything private or special. It’s just something that you do for fun. Watching Jamie change the way he views relationships was so freakin’ sweet, and it was made even sweeter because the other man involved was Tyler.
Tyler is a tall drink of southern charm wrapped in muscles and tattoos. And he has puppies. Seriously. As Jamie points out – if Jamie had ovaries, they would have exploded. Tyler is patient and understanding and exactly what Jamie needs as he allows himself to slip slowly and ever so cautiously into his first relationship. These two together were just…gah! Too much to put into words! They’re for sure one of my new favourite couples. I loved all of the secondary characters too and can’t wait for some of them to have their stories told. The sassy banter that fills these pages was endlessly entertaining.
Plot wise, there is very little conflict other than what’s going on in Jamie’s head and the need to bridge to physical distance between them, as they live in different parts of the country. So if you want something that’s angst-lite but still utterly engrossing, maybe give this one a go. I have no hesitations in recommending it.
