A past he couldn’t forget
Adam Barton is living his dream of working as a firefighter in his small Texas town, but a tragedy from his youth continues to haunt him. He decides New York City is the perfect place to start a new life and joins the FDNY, living and loving his own way—no strings and nothing personal. Until he catches sight of Rico Estevez, the sexy chef with the mysterious smile who rocks his world. After one explosive night together, Adam craves another….And then another. The more he and Rico are together, the more Adam wants him.
A future he never imagined
Rico Estevez is living a lie. For years he’s hidden his sexuality, afraid to hurt the career of his politically ambitious father. He’s the perfect American―the best schools, top of his class and most importantly, to his father, a successful businessman. Who needs a boyfriend when sex is so easy to find? Starting a torrid love affair with Adam Barton isn’t a problem; neither one is looking toward forever. But Rico’s father is about to get the chance of a lifetime and Rico feels forced to play by his rules.
Rules are made to be broken
Adam proves more unforgettable than Rico ever imagines, but he gives in to family pressures above personal desire. When a fire reunites them, both men discover their passion for each other hasn’t died; rather it’s stronger than ever. Want turns to need and something more dangerous to their hearts—love. Adam and Rico know if they want to have it all, they can let no one and nothing stand in their way of a life together.
REVIEW:
This was so worth the wait! I was so looking forward to reading Rico’s story after finishing book 1 and this was absolutely more than worth it.
I loved the connection he had with Adam right from the get go. At the end of Learning to Love, you could feel the chemistry there even in that short piece. I have to admit it was a struggle to not dislike Rico in the beginning while it is so easy to like and love Adam.
Let me include the part that troubled me most. Despite understanding Rico’s reasons for keeping his distance it frustrated me more and more as the story went on. I mean come on, how long do you need to get your act together!
It was worth it though. Both men are so unique. Adam is so loving and caring and his sense of family is so strong including his family of firefighters. He is compassionate and loyal but even he lives with something that could easily destroy everything
Rico is complicated and has far to come. It is clear he’s falling for Adam but his family and his fears are getting the better of him.
What started out as a sexy get-together turned into something more but will they be able to get to the end despite all the drama, disappointments, fears and more?
The way author Felice Stevens wrote this story completely fitted in the end, with a special mention of the LGTBQ issues that were talked about and are very much aware of in story.
There is quite a bit of sexual interaction in this one but it is sensual, sexy and hot! It is those moments that you feel that Rico is indeed invested in Adam.
To wrap it up I very much liked this story, I really like Felice Stevens, her writing and with this story that is not different. An extra bonus for me was the presence of Gideon and Jonah (from the first two stories) because I just love them to bits. Still this story can be perfectly read as a standalone, I just wouldn’t deny yourself the pleasure of the first two stories wonderful stories in this Together series.
